My grandfather worked on trains all his life. I kind of wish I’d gotten more of his stories. I know towards the end of his life his kids made sure to put him somewhere where he could hear the trains, because it was something familiar to him.

It is possible to get carried away.

But for your viewing pleasure:

Thanks, I may take up model railroading pending the Super Bowl outcome.

I have two layouts … not really layouts … just two circles; my OLD Lionels [wrapped in newspapers since 1958] and some 20 year old N-scale.

The Lionel track is all corroded. And you need to have a jeweler’s loup to work on the N-scale.

But when I’m not on Catholic Answers then I can expend some time trying to get them working again.

If I lived close enough to a rail historical society, I would join up and help with restoration.

My grandmother lived in the mountains of Orbisonia, Pa. near the old East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Company. When I was in early grade school my family would spend time up there during vacations. I remember visiting the train station, and what a thrill it was to take a scenic ride through the valley in the caboose…

Now I’m sad to learn the railroad had been closed down since 2011?

I wish I could show some of this stuff to my grandfather. He worked on trains all his life, always loved them. Knew so much about them, could tell you when the train was coming at practically every intersection.

I was perusing an issue of “Model Railroader” Magazine and there was an advert for Bachmann E–Z Track System. It was a little pricey. Anyway, I looked on Amazon and they had it for half price. HOWEVER, I ended up spending hours reading all the various comments. Including for similar track systems made by Kato and others.

What a great way to spend an afternoon!
