The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the message of Jesus Christ (“The Kingdom of God is at hand!”), not a Gospel (a historical document which records the life and teachings of Jesus Christ).

There were hundreds of false Gospels around in the early days of the Church - Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Peter, Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Pilate, Gospel of Judas, Gospel of Andrew, etc. - but the Church, by the power of God, managed to find four Gospels which were authentic, not false, and these four Gospels we have today in the Bible: the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

I can understand the confusion about “Gospel” and “Gospels”, though, given the words both begin with a captial G and sound similar. But when we speak about the Gospel of Jesus, we mean His message, and when we speak about the Gospels, we mean the four Gospels in the Bible. Singular means the message of Jesus, plural means the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

There is no Gospel written by Jesus, because if there was, the Catholic Church would have done everything in her power to preserve it, just as she did everything in her power to preserve the relics of Jesus’ Passion: You can read about Jesus’ relics here.

They were using the Traditions of spoken teaching from Jesus to the Apostle, to the Apostle of the Apostle. They followed the Tradition of what Jesus did during His lifetime. Until in the 46’s Paul begin to wrote his sermon to the churches in far away cities, and in the 50’s Mark under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote what he learned from Peter. Then Matthew, then Luke, then the Apostles wrote their sermons, and finally John in the 90’s. After that, no written writing from anybody from any period is accepted, such as the gospel of Thomas, gospel of Barnabas, gospel of Mary Magdalene etc etc.

Hi

So it means, in my opinion, that the **Gospel of Jesus **is not within the four Catholic Gospels, the so called historical documents which are said to have records of the life and teachings of Jesus .

Nevertheless our frined LDNCatholic says that Saint Thomas had it with him in Kerala. Thanks to our friend LDNCatholic.

As I said, the Gospel of Jesus is the message of Jesus. This is what all the Apostles, save Judas, followed: the message of Jesus. They followed the Gospel of Jesus by teaching it to others and living holy lives.

The Gospels do include the message of Jesus, for they, being authentic historical documents, include Jesus preaching, “The Kingdom of God is at hand!” several times. You can see this for yourself by reading the Bible here.

We Catholics believe the Gospel of Jesus is the message of Jesus, and the four Gospels are the authentic historical documents that include Jesus’ life and teachings, and the Apostles (save Judas) followed the Gospel by teaching and living holy lives. This is what we believe. Please respect our beliefs.

Paarsurrey thought the Gospel of Jesus is a book. Maybe we should use the small ‘g’ for clarity for Paarsurrey’s sake. I’ve found that it’s quite tough to get anything into his head thus we have to be as simple as possible with him. Sadly being too simple we could miss the message altogether.

For Paarsurrey’s information, gospel means good news. But because the only good news is Jesus’ good news, it is always understood as the only one. Thus when Christiians mention about gospel they would mean the Gospel, the Good News, which is Jesus, the Kingdom is near and the forgiveness of sins.

Hopefully this will go somewhere. 🤷

Hi

I always respect the beliefs of Jesus and Mary as they are mentioned in the truthful Quran.

I love Jesus and Mary and would guard against the uncanny beliefs made by Paul perhaps by superstition, in my opinion.

Thanks

BTW, it is Muslims’ belief that Jesus was given the Injeel (Gospel). They also called Christians and Jews as some of the people of the Book. It is natural that they believe the Injeel was in a book form. I thought Mohammad had this idea but interestingly enough he could not possibly have seen the book Injeel itself. This is where all the errors came in and that the Quran is the final revelation to mankind to supplement the Injeel (book) that had been lost.

Interestingly too, the Quran was never in a book form. Mohammad himself never saw the Quran that Muslims have today. It is safe to say that we cannot guarantee whether Mohammad would agree with the Quran today because as a compilation it was not under his supervision.

paarsurrey, seriously u need to learn English

“GOSPEL” does not mean “DIARY”

It means:
the teachings of Jesus and the apostles; the Christian revelation.2.the story of Christ’s life and teachings, esp. as contained in the first four books of the New Testament, namely Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.3.(usually initial capital letterhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.png) any of these four books.4.something regarded as true and implicitly believed: *to take his report for gospel. *5.a doctrine regarded as of prime importance: *political gospel. *6.glad tidings, esp. concerning salvation and the kingdom of God as announced to the world by Christ.7.(often initial capital letterhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.png) Ecclesiastical. an extract from one of the four Gospels, forming part of the Eucharistic service in certain churches.

Once you realise this, you will see how St Thomas had the Gospel with him.
He had the teachings of Jesus with him, not a handwritten personal diary of Jesus’

Why do you persist on filling these forums with such drivel?

They may be your opinions, but you are poorly misinformed on the meanings of words we use in the Western world.

Hi

I start giving here teaching of Jesus and Mary according to Quran:

[19:31] He said, ‘I am a servant of Allah. He has given me the Book, and made me a Prophet;

[19:32] ‘And He has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon me Prayer and almsgiving so long as I live;

[19:33] ‘And He has made me dutiful toward my mother, and He has not made me haughty and unblessed.

[19:34] ‘And peace was on me the day I was born, and peace there will be on me the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised up to life again.’

[19:35] Such was Jesus, son of Mary. This is a statement of the truth about which they doubt.

[19:36] It does not befit the Majesty of Allah to take unto Himself a son. Holy is He. When He decrees a thing, He says to it, ‘Be!’, and it is.

[19:37] Said Jesus: ‘Surely, Allah is my Lord, and your Lord. So worship Him alone; this is the right path.’

What makes the Qur’an truthful as opposed the Bible??? Why would St. Paul make superstitions about Mary and Jesus. You recognize that both Mary and Jesus existed and that Christ had a message, but really makes the Qur’an any truthful??? Also why would there be a need for Christ to have his own separate Gospel inside the Bible when the other Gospels contain Christ’s message???

Praise the Lord! Islam teaches that Jesus IS Risen! I always thought Muslims said He never really died and rose from the dead.

19:34] ‘And peace was on me the day I was born, and peace there will be on me the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised up to life again.’

Then your opinion is based on something other than logic, or what the text states, or tradition.(That includes Islamic Tradition, and theology, which equates the Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) to be equal in status to the q’ran, and as such, is without error.]
Nevertheless our frined LDNCatholic says that Saint Thomas had it with him in Kerala.
This is true. The Gospel of Jesus is what he taught, and practised. Thomas took to India his understanding of what that entailed. (There is some evidence that suggests that Thomas took at least the Gospel of Matthew with him.)

Great. So Paar, what was the point of opening up this thread? We’ve explained to you what a gospel and Gospels are, and than you go and spit in our faces by saying “I believe what is the Qu’ran, not what you believe!”? Perhaps you don’t care about the truth, but only wish to harass us into believing your faith? Ah but we are steadfast people, not willing to give up our Catholic faith! So you’ll just have to respect our beliefs, and pray for us if you want. We pray for you too.

How ignorant of you to quote me, then not tell me you had done so, indicate it in the thread title or invite me to explain myself.

Gospel translates as ‘‘good news’’, hence all Gospels of the Bible are Gospels of Jesus Christ as they bring the Good News that He died for our sins and rose from the dead, that He is God.

Saint Thomas knew Christ. He had the teachings of Christ in His own memory, he was guided by the Holy Spirit (Pentecost anyone?). He had no need of books.

Paarsurrey that was a very narrow minded and, if I am honest, nasty thing for you to do.

paar has no intention of being honest in his threads/posts. you give him truthful answers and what do you get? circular responses that put you back to square one. he’s welcome in this Catholic forum, of course, but i pray that he does not abuse our hospitality nor insult our intelligence.:o
God bless.
