Hi, I know gossip is not a good thing. I’ve read in the Catechism that I shouldn’t do that, but what happens when people you know and trust start gossiping, like my mom? She came home gossiping about her co-workers. I once told her that if it is true, it’s not gossip, but I’ve learned better recently. I told her today that I didn’t want to keep gossiping about her co-workers and she said, “Then I guess I’ll never have anything else to tell you.” And then she stomped off. Did I handle this correctly? Is this what Jesus would have done? I feel kind of guilty because I entertained her gossip for so long, and I said some things about her co-workers that I really shouldn’t have. Did I commit a mortal sin? Thank you for your time.
