Have to share the news that my Catholic #1 choice college called me and said my application was acceppted!😃

The college has a 58% acceptance rate and I made the cut!

:dancing::extrahappy::yyeess::whackadoo::choocho:

Doesn’t mean I’ll go there - going up for a campus visit in 67 days (and counting :P). I have to see if it’s going to be financially responsible of me to go there (as I’ll be paying for my own college). But it’s a step in the right direction!

It’ll be great to compare to my other options (all local). Praying for God’s will in all of this - if I’m supposed to be there, He’ll make it happen.

Appreciate all your prayers/advice!!

Congrats! This is an exciting time. Now is the time to start looking for scholarships. Keep looking and keep applying for as many as you can. Talk to your guidance counselor at your high school and someone in the admissions office at the college to find out about as many of these opportunities as you can. Do research on your own as well. Cast the net as wide as possible. Even if it’s just a few hundred dollars here and a few hundred dollars there, it can really add up when you put it all together. It’s well worth the effort. I wish I had been more attentive to that when I was your age. :o

Hi Joe!

Yes - definatly on the scholarships - I’m homeschooled, so my guidance counsler is my parents 😃 - but I get my eligible scholarship based on grades coming this month from the college. I’ll go up there in November to audition for music scholarships.

I think the biggest amount I’ll get (praying!! :gopray2: ) is from federal and state grants, beings that I am the oldest of 8 kids, a dependent, and make a very minimul amount of money myself on a part time job (12 hours a week).

All in God’s will - all things are possible with Him!!

Congratulations. Please be sure that going to this college will not put you deep in debt. Hopefully you will qualify for scholarships and financial aid from Federal and State governments. You should not graduate from college with more then $25,000 in debt. That will cost you about $250 per month to pay back the debt in ten years. Good luck and plan ahead for your future. šŸ‘

Excellent advice. Since you are homeschooled and are the oldest, it can’t hurt to see if you can get an appointment with your local high school counselor’s office anyway. They have tons of resources about financial aid. Look in your local paper also - there may be a meeting at the school or library that is open to the public.

Consider sources for scholarships such as your family bank, utility companies, Better Business Bureau, local service organizations. Since you are a musician, look for scholarships from music companies, regional orchestras, and other music related organizations. If you have a private teacher, ask him/her also.

Federal grants are good, but having extra money for textbooks, instruments, sheet music, additional private lessons is helpful too. Many of the smaller ā€œbookā€ scholarships go directly to the recipient and not the school, so you can use them for incidentals that will add up. My daughter gets private voice lessons included in her tuition and has access to practice rooms, but her music, performance clothing, and travel costs are her responsibility.
