Got into dicussion but turned to one sided argument:

Thanks everyone. I went to my RCIA class and had a long talk with one of our Deacons. He told me that when someone lashes out at you like that then it is best that you just say nothing. By lashing back at him would have made it worst.

My wife has told me that he was sorry for what had happened and I have put it behind me, but it may be a while before i’m ready to talk to him.

Great! And since he’s sorry, you can easily forgive him because everyone has said something stupid in their lives, and his regret shows that he acknowleges it is. I would be willing to bet he will be the better for knowing it, and for seeing your Catholic forgiveness at work! This is the best possible outcome for both of you.
