Well the other day, Sunday night actually, while a few of my friends came over and we sat down and chatted over a couple of beers, my bffs kind of/sort of-wanna be boyfriend, asked me what’s the point of believing in GOD and being religious???

He is an athiest, doesn’t believe in GOD, even though when he’s in trouble you hear him all the time saying things like “OMG help or I SWEAR TO GOD I DIDNT DO It…”🤷 Anyhow, then he looks at me and looks at my bff he says “you realize religious people are ridiculous, how do you dare to go to “confess” your sins, yet five minutes later you are sinning again? That doesn’t make any sense at all! Why are religious people so hypocritical?”

I was like, “first of all we are not perfect, duh, second of all, we are trying to live our lives well, some of us more than others, and some are just having a little more difficult time than others making in the ways of our LORD! He forgives us, loves us and takes care of us. We go to confession because we need to cleanse our spirit, reconcile with Christ and try to be better people…It’s just that sometimes we mess things up and end up screwing up all over again!! :(

So again he looked at me and was like “See that’s ridiculous, why would any god want to forgive you after all the things you do over and over and over again?” THen my bff she looked at me and said “yeah I did that over and over again, I went to confession and then I cussed, so the next time I went to confession again, and ended up cussing again, etc…” So her “man” looks at me and says “see what’s the point it’s ridiculous!” So then I told him you know what I went once without cussing for about 6 months straight, and I was doing well then things started going bad and I failed, I fell into temptation and messed up, I started cussing again. I try to hold myself back but it’s hard. I am not promiscuous, I don’t hurt anyone, I try to help others in need, Go to church-etc, I try not to lie at all, not even little white lies, except when its for my kids, sorry can’t tell them SANTA doesn’t exist nor the toothfairy that’s just wrong!! 😦 So anyhow, but I know I am not perfect…I do mess up on a daily basis but I try not to and I beg for forgiveness and hope the LORD does forgive me and doesn’t get tired of me…

But I understand what he’s saying, how in the world could I have explained it better, he still shook his head and walked away…I felt so horrible…because even though I tried to explain to him that we are at least trying, and that’s the whole point, we are trying to live well and as GOD commands it but he still just shook his head with disapproval and left…😦

This is harder than I thought…🤷

You could say, I know that some people appear to not have a firm purpose of ammendment But, many do. 🙂

Maybe I should say that…It’s just that you know…How do you explain something to deaf ears?

To turn things on him, ask if he ever wishes for something to be different. Does he wish there was no war or no poverty? If he does “wish” for these things, who does he think will grant these wishes?? Who is he “wishing” to?

Another point you could have made is that confession also includes TRUE sorrow for the sin. We only go and confess with the intention of NOT sinning again. As humans, we do fall short (some of us more than others…me here!😊 ) but we receive Grace from God to help us walk in His path and to hopefully sin no more.

Its hard to convince a non-believer. You have to start out small. Establish if he’s truly an athiest or if he’s merely an agnostic. Does he believe in a creator? Who made the first push?

Always remember to say a quick prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide your words before you encounter him.

As someone coming out of athiesm, I would reccomend you first and foremost are an excellent christian example to him. He may be cynical after seeing what appears to him to be a huge contradiction in christian beliefs/actions. This is easy to overcome with him by being patient. You must stress to him that the christian teachings are the things to look at, not the individual christians for now. 👍
Forgive him for his uncharitable commentary also.🙂

Knowing him he would say I would wish for people to do this, since we control ourselves I just wish for people to change so that things can be better!!

My bff told him this, she was like well we are truly sorry and wish to be forgiven, we are not planning on doing the same mistake again and sin but it happens so we go to try and remind us not to sin again and to try and have a better and closer life with GOD! He just rolls his eyes and says WHATEVER!!

I think he is an agnostic, but he says he doesn’t believe in GOD, but every chance he gets he’s like OH GOD please help me or like the other day he upset my bf he ran up to him and was like “I SWEAR TO GOD I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO HURT HER!!!” It’s like ok you don’t believe in GOD yet…??? You are calling out for Him and using His name!!! How does that work?

I try not to say anything to hurt him or wrong…I kept my answers as well as I could…and thanks for reminding me about asking guidance before I open my mouth about anything to the Holy Spirit…Hope I haven’t offended anyone with all the things I write!! 😦
