Got milk!

Who was the man that first decided to milk a cow? How did that happen? What was the turn of events that led to the first cow-milking? I mean I like milk but I’m just wondering what possesses a man to milk a cow? When does it come ok in his mind that he can drink that?

I can’t answer that question, but every time I think about that, I’m reminded of the story of the inner city kid who went on a day-trip to a farm. He came home angry, and when his mom asked him why, he said, “If I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. I’ll say this – I ain’t NEVER gonna drink milk again!”

We know that cows were milked back in the days of Moses and maybe before.
Really don’t know if what you are asking has ever been recorded in history.

However, I am sure that since all mammals give milk to their young; plus cows & goats have an abundant supply* ( just look at their exposed udders)* one would suspect that mankind saw a substitute for human mother’s milk when the need arose. And the process just went forward from that point on.

I think this is maybe a very good idea. It could well have been that the mother was unable to produce enough milk (or maybe the mother died) and the father…looking at a calf sucking on a cow (or a kid on a mama goat) put two and two together and figured it was worth a try in order to save his baby.

I heard a cute joke about how cheese got its name:

An ancient goatherd did decide to milk some of his goats, and put the milk in skins for transport back to his home. Unfortunately, he forgot one of the skins.

Humans have consumed milk from a variety of animals. Cows, horses, goata, so on. Though this wasn’t universal. In some areasm(eg:areas of Africa) in which milk wasnt consumed. There tends do be more instances of lactose intolerance among people feom areas wjere milk wasnt consumed.

Yea it never came upon my mind that it could be thought as a substitute for human mother’s milk but a common beverage? I guess it does boil down to a matter of prehistoric survival. I just find it amazing that someone could point to a cow and say I’m going to drink that.

I could imagine a lactose intolerance from a people that don’t drink milk. That makes sense.
