We went to a Christmas tree farm today and cut our own Frasier fir. It’s a very nice tree. I’ve never been to a Christmas tree farm before, and we had fun. Well, I had fun… DH had to get down in the snow to cut the tree. It is 10 degrees outside, so we didn’t dilly dally too much.

I’d just LOVE to cut down our own tree! I doubt around here I’d be able to find anything as nice as a Frasier Fir though. I guess that’s just the price you have to pay for not having to deal with 10 degree weather! The high today is 65* and it’s nice and sunny. 😛

Glad you had a good time 1ke!

You’re both so lucky! I’ve never had a real tree! I want to someday and say I’m going to every year…then I pull out my little 4", rustic Christmas tree, throw some homemade ornaments on it, and call it done!

Okay, so where are the pictures of this gorgeous frasier fir? Us all who are stuck with trees from a box would like to see!!

There are a surprising number of Christmas Tree Farms around Houston:

I always wanted to go to Rudolph’s up near TAMU when I was in college, but never did.

I will be back home for next week for work, and am looking forward to:

(a) 65* weather
(b) Chuy’s here I come

We got ours yesterday, too. Also a fraiser. My dh has a visiting Japanese researcher here, so we took her, too. 😃 It was fun to see her reaction to this funny American ritual.

Well… after responding to your thread, I got to thinkin’… and then talked to husband… so next weekend we’re gonna go get our tree @ High Star Farm in Hockley! We know exactly where it is, it’s easy easy access off of hwy 290. I don’t believe we will do the actual cutting though, I think they have staff take care of that for you after you choose your tree, then they shake all the loose needles off and such. The toddler is gonna have a blast running around all those trees. Husband likes the idea of doing business locally too. Should be a really nice family day, which hasn’t happened lately since I’ve been exhausted from school and pregnancy. School ends this week thank goodness.

Have you been back since Ike? If not, don’t mind all the signage that needs replacing, or the fallen fences. Take note of the wood panels in our sky scrapers too… 😛 We’re getting back to normal slowly but surely! Have a safe blessed trip!

Here’s the “masterpiece”… 😃 and a closeup of the fraser fir needles!

We got a frasier fir as well, though ours was pre-cut. :o

Growing up we always cut down our own real tree, but when I got married and moved out and lived in an apartment…well, we settled for fake for a while. Now that we have our own house, it’s a real tree for us now!!! 😃

Ike aren’t you in Wisconsin too?

How come I can’t find me a tree farm near here where you can cut your own? You’re probably west or north of me…I’ve been wanting to do the cut my own since I moved here but have had to settle for a little dairy farm that grows a few trees and sells the pre-cut. Yeah it has the atmosphere but I want to cut the tree myself.

Mind telling me where you went?🙂

AW!! 👍 I have never been able to cut down our tree, we just go and buy one!! 😦 But that’s wonderful…I am glad! And hope your family and loved ones have a wonderfully pine smelling Christmas!! 😃

I love the smell of pine trees!! And I try to sniff ours all the time, it smells good!!! 😛 😃

Yes. There are apparently several tree farms in the area.

I don’t know where you are, but I’m in SW Wisconsin.

Here’s an interactive map of WI Christmas tree farms-- at least one’s affiliated with the WI Christmas Tree Producers association.

We are in region 4 on the map, and this is the farm we went to, but there are a couple of other small ones in the area that aren’t on this map so they may not be Association members. Ask around in the community, maybe there are some around you don’t know about.

Thanks 1! I hadn’t found that site for some reason…apparently there are some in Waukesha county I can go to:thumbsup:

So have you ever been over to House on the Rock for all the Christmas insanity… er I mean decorations:p ? People round here seem to LOVE it.

( I will never go there again it was like a living nightmare… )

I have not been to HOTR for Christmas time. I didn’t know there was a “spectacle” to be seen there. It’s too friggin’ cold anyway. I’m staying INSIDE… oh, wait, I’m going South for a week… even better!

I went to HOTR in the summer when my family came to visit. The dust in all those musty old rooms was terrible and I ended up with a sinus infection! But, it sure is a fascinating place. It’s only about 30 min from me.

I won’t be putting up a real tree this year, but I think they’re the
best. Love the smell and I will put up some cut branches so that
it will seem more “Christmasey”.
For my oldest first Christmas, we went trudging through the
forest for our tree. We would approach one tree that seemed
“perfect” from the road, only to find the back of the tree bare.
We finally found a tree that seemed the right size and decided
that since the top of the tree was full on both front and back,
we would just use the top. After the top was cut (we had to
leave the rest of the tree at the edge of the road where it was
picked up) we dragged the tree to the stationwagon (no suv’s)
and put dd in her carseat. She turned around as dh was pulling
it into the car and started screaming bloody murder. If it hadn’t
taken us HOURS to find, cut and drag it down, we would have
left it there. We finally showed her the tree from all sides and
calmed her down. Then we got home and couldn’t get it in
the house, it was too wide and tall, lol!!! So it got cut again.
Never forget that Christmas!
