Was diagnosed a few months ago; evidently my diabetes and hypertension were the cause. I can’t seem to get the hypertension under control. Its very difficult to get a prognosis from my doctor or from an internet search what long term effects will be. It does appear that I am destined for kidney dialysis in the near future, should I not get my hypertension under control. I have read that the life expectancy for those starting dialysis is five years.
I have never been married. I do date but nothing serious in the past few years. In light of my health situation, would it be wise that I continue to find a spouse? Who would want to marry me if my life expectancy was only another 5 or 10 years?! I am thinking that I should give up on dating and just focus on my job/spirituality/current relationships. Is this a noble approach?

I cannot tell you what to do but I will offer this: I too faced some serious health issues several years ago. I took myself OUT of the dating scene, concentrated on my physical, emotional and spiritual health. I am in much better shape now and open to meeting someone, but have recently wondered if I am called to marriage or not…🤷

Yes I agree with you. My first priority is my health. At the current time, dating has to be put on the shelf.
I’m surprised that I didn’t get much (name removed by moderator)ut on this topic. Perhaps its such a depressing situation that all you want to do is look away. Believe me I wouldn’t be insulted if was was advised to give up on marriage completely, given my precarious health

Are you not a candidate for a transplant? Five years seems to be the magic number for dialysis, most people do not last much longer than this, but there are, as always, exceptions.
Younger people generally will get a transplant before they reach end stage kidney failure, though. If your poor health makes you an undesirable transplant candidate, by all means get that under control, but post-transplant you should feel free to seek a marriage partner.

If i may interject my opinion. You know I always say to ask the doctors if adult stem cell research is a good idea. Try talking to the doctor about stem cells to regrow your kidney or see if you are a good match to somebody who has healthy kidneys and take their stem cells and regrow a kidney to use in you. Just my opinion.
