So? Whatā€™s everyone doing? Making the same old same old, or trying anything new this year?

I am trying some new puff pastry appetizers, but pretty much the usual at my home.

Pretty similar. This year we will have a few people over. In other years we have had more.

We both will be redding up the house, sis will do some of the cooking. Iā€™ll do some of the cooking.

Pies already done.

Egg nog (both with and without) prepared.

Sis will do turkey, candied yams and marshmallows, corn.

Iā€™ll do green bean casserole, rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries.

3D movies, fresh made popcorn, brandy or soda in our 120 inch theater screen room.

Iā€™m sure Iā€™ve forgotten something.

Just the same minimalist for me. Turkey, stuffing, mashed and sweet potatoes all with gravy. Grape juice drink. Apple pie dessert.

Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, an unknown vegetable since our son and daughter in law are bringing it. Only the four of us plus twin 17-month olds to help make the mess. Apple pie too, I think. Pretty straight forward. Sad part is it will be their second Thanksgiving meal since friends of theirs have to work, they are cooking for them early.

Many years ago, we always went to my parentsā€™ house for Thanksgiving, and my mother insisted on doing the entire mealā€¦sheā€™d start a few days ahead of time, and everything would be perfect. 25 years ago, she was losing the battle with cancer, and she still prepared the whole mealā€¦she wouldnā€™t have it any other way. She was so worn out, she couldnā€™t leave the bedroom that day. We took turns spending time with her through the evening. She lived for another week.
Ever since, Thanksgiving has been at my sisterā€™s houseā€¦she passed out Momā€™s recipes, and everyone brings an appetizer, side dish, or dessert that Mom made way back when, and an additional dish thatā€™s a little less traditionalā€¦
When I get home tomorrow, Iā€™ll let you know exactly what we ateā€¦

What a great story, boldlygo! I am sure it will be delicious and spark lots of memories.

Before we got married we used to have to make the rounds. Stop at my husbands moms, eat a bit. Stop at his dadā€™s, snack on appetizers (or go over after dinner for dessert) and then dinner at my momā€™s or sisterā€™s house.

That is true. My kids love to reminisce about the days when they were able to eat the most. It was pretty funny the year their sister beat both sons.

Keeping it simple this year. Going to the gym in the morning and hangout with the folks later on. Might go for an evening run if Iā€™m really bored :running_man:

My friend up near Sacramento always participates in the 5k ā€œTurkey Trotā€.

Last year he came in 2nd place for his age group. Impressive! I asked him how many were in his age group? His answer: two.

Weirdsgiving- when my spouse and children huddle together and eat weird foods in the Wednesday calm before the storm.

Thanksgiving- at my parents house and I keep losing ground on side dishes to bring because Iā€™d like some vegetabley crunch amidst the starches and was thus fired and assigned cranberry sauce.

Shrimpsgiving- same crowd but itā€™s a shrimp boil at my house on Friday

Saturday BBQ where everyone wonders why we must feast for so many consecutive days Iā€™m bring deviled eggs and carrot raisin salad.

Maybe next year Iā€™ll have the courage to not drag my family to all of these.

Pretty subdued. My wife, myself, and a 12 lb turkey. A Christmas gift coupon from work, so weā€™ll be freezing whatever the Bumpas hound doesnā€™t steal. Some of the traditional sides, but it is hard to make smaller amounts.

Last year my son took me they had a 0 K where he lives; from the start to the food trucks.

I make the entire mealā€¦Iā€™m either an idiot or I just love to do it! Iā€™ve done it for so many years I donā€™t even have to think about anything other than the finish timeā€¦4pm this year.

I make turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, mammys yammys, green bean casserole, noodle kugel (a Jewish dish that is now demanded by everyone), Hawaiian rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and cool whip and ice cream to top them. I have a double oven plus a tabletop one for the rolls so I can actually make all of it!

So far, itā€™s my husband and I, daughter and fiancĆ©, son and wife and granddaughter #1 and her boyfriend. I think my husbands brother is coming to eat, too, but may just stop by to say hi and eat at his daughter in lawsā€¦weā€™ll know tonight. Weā€™ve had larger and smaller.

They better but Iā€™m hoping for a good game and not a blow out. Iā€™ve completely given up on my Broncosā€¦till next year!
