I bury mine in the backyard. They can also be burned, but I don’t like to start fires. What are you supposed to do with a worn out scapular?

I have never heard this before. Who told you that you cannot wear a brown scapular until you recieve confirmation? What I deduce from that statement is that peope who were vested as kids (even someone on here posted they were vested as a child) are not legitemately vested. I had a friend that faithfully wore his many many years ago and we were in the 5th grade at a private Catholic school. He, obviously had not received confirmation. As an RCIA Candidate, I currently wear the Green Scaplar and the Brown Scapular. The Green Scapular has been properly blessed, and I recite the required prayer every day.
I also wear the Brown Scapular even though I have been told I cannot be properly blessed and invested until after Confirmation. I wear it anyhow as a mark of respect to Mother Mary, with no hope for all the privilages and indulgences granted to invested wearers. My little dedication to Her![]()
Thank you, TimI bury mine in the backyard. They can also be burned, but I don’t like to start fires.![]()
I also wore my brown one in sixth grade. I went to Catholic School and my teacher who was a nun gave them to the whole class, and we had a special prayer that went along with it. The Pastor at our Parish blessed all of them and none of us were confirmed either. Why would it be wrong to wear a brown one if you weren’t confirmed then?I have never heard this before. I know there are some people on here that like to quote CCC or other published church documents. Please quote for me where the church states one cannot be vested if they had not received confirmation.
Thank you.
Somebody was obviously mistaken in saying that one had to be confirmed to wear and have devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel by the wearing of the Brown Scapular.I also wore my brown one in sixth grade. Why would it be wrong to wear a brown one if you weren’t confirmed then?I am now and still have a brown one, in fact, I have 2 brown ones. A few years ago I bought a white one and accidentally cut the thread but I still have the ends of it in a box.
So again, what’s wrong with wearing a brown one??
When I was in my RCIA class for my confirmation last year, the instructor said that wearing a scapular was a bit fanatic… if that is so, then why did a nun give them to my whole class and why would the Priest bless them?
Here is how I did mine.Possibly you could knot the string (one on each end) to make it shorter and less slippable. Make it just big enough to fit your head through.
Not really wrong … although I believe you can get some that have a plastic coating on the outside, or else you could try wearing a Scapular Medal instead.Ok, I have a small problem. I am allergic to the wool, and so if I wear it directly next to my skin, I start to break out and become very uncomfortable by the end of the day. I’ve recently been putting it in my pocket. Is this wrong?
Rather than suffer from the allergies you can wear the Scapular medal. I know a priest that does this because of allergies.I tried the plastic ones, and they scratch like crazy! I think I end up cursing more than I get any spiritual graces from them!I mean, I’m willing to suffer and offer things up for the Lord, but scratchy scapulars are just too much!
I think I’ll just settle for martyrdom to get my way to heaven!

It is an allergy to wool that made the poster decide to wear the Scapular that was encased in plastic.

Can anyone list the carious scapulars and what their purpose is? Also, is a scapular the same as wearing a medal (i.e., the Miraculous Medal. a medal of a Saint -and some come with a piece of cloth from the Saint, etc). Thanks in advance! Is there a site where I can read up on the various scapulars that exist? Ever since my reversion I’ve been interested in this devotional/sacramental, and I think it would be best to acquire a devotional as soon as I can (prayerfully, of course).

not “carious” but VARIOUS
You were in Guadalupe… or you meant there was a miracle in Winnipeg?Uh - aren’t we supposed to take the plastic off?
I’ve been wearing mine for more than a year. I was enrolled in the Brown Scapular at the Marian Eucharistic conference in Winnipeg in 2005, the same day as the miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe happened there. I didn’t actually witness the miracle, but I was in the same room when it happened (distracted by something else, as usual), which was very cool - it’s not every day that that kind of thing happens. Mine came in a bag; it wasn’t wrapped in plastic.
I tried doing a search to find a site for you, but all I found was online stores where sacramentals are sold. They had a few kinds of scapulars, but didn’t really tell about them. I’ll try to be a little help here.Is there a site where I can read up on the various scapulars that exist? The most popular is the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which is associated with the Carmelite order. It is a sign of consecration to Our Blessed Mother. I wear one, and it reminds me to imitate her.
There is a Green Scapular, the purpose of which is spiritual healing. One can give one to someone, or put it in a room where they are and say the prayer daily for them: “Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.” I put one under the mattress where my husband sleeps (he is deceased now), and prayed for him every day. He did come to the faith a few months before his death.
There is a white Scapular of the Dominican order, and there is a Red Scapular, where the person who wears it has a particular devotion to the Blood of Jesus.
There is a Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception, and a Black Scapular of the Seven Sorrows of our Blessed Mother.
Maybe a search on individual scapulars will come up with something for you.
God bless…
Thank you!Thank you.I’ve made a note to pray for your husband. Bless you.
