Well, GQ is on the list of publications that I never read anyway.

Well consider the source.

How many Bibles have been sold compared to GQ Magazines ?

Jim

The GQ article isn’t bad. I agree with most of it. Especially the stuff about JD Salinger. Several of the books that were recommended seemed interesting. The comparison of Huck Finn (the one to skip) to a book about slavery by Frederick Douglass ( read this instead) was a good example. Here’s a link to the GQ article if anyone wants to read it.

What are good Christians doing reading GQ? Should they just stick to Cosmopolitan? LOL

People have lost their faith from
too much Bible readin. There’z a
reason those caution stickers
are on there

Really? That list is an absolute joke to me. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I for one am not going to trade my copy of Blood Meridian for The Sisters Brothers (?) any time soon.

Yeah I see that claim floatin’ around the interwubs.

Haven’t seen it in real life though

Who cares what GQ thinks. The Bible is the Word of the Everlasting God whereas GQ is some magazine that will wither away like the grass. It’s not worth getting worked up on this.

But it’s also reflective of the culture we live in, so I think it’s definitely something worth discussing.

Absolutely missing on the foundation of Western literature (and beyond!).

Also, completely unfair analysis. It’s not even a “book”, more like a library.

I agree with that. It’s another item in the list of evidence the US isn’t a Christian nation. The faster some realise this the better.
I was addressing the ‘wrath of Christians’ part of the story.

GQ should stick to fashion. The Bible is foundational for western literature.

The Book of Books: What Literature Owes the Bible - The New York Times
And that’s from the uber liberal NYT to boot.
Does anyone read GQ?

If a tree falls in the forest…
I just LOL’d at this, remembering the convo about Chick-fil-A and free publicity. Perhaps their sales were falling. (I sort of remember reading something somewhere about how sales of mags like this are dropping, but I couldn’t quote it if I had to and can’t tell you where I saw it. LOL.)
