Grace, before meal, at a restaurant!

I believe Christ also said let your light shine and not to put your lantern under your bed

I have but admittedly they have been rare occasions. Once I even joined in saying grace though with a SDA family I was dining with at a restaurant.

We shouldnt pray just for others to see, that is malicous intent. Praying to God alone for thanks is not of pleasing ones self but of God.

Every Meal. Everywhere, never bothered to check if others noticed.

I need to start doing it “publicly”. I read about Catholics who, when they were being oppressed by protestants or others, would make the sign of the cross with their eyes by looking up, down, then side to side. I adopted it and make the sign of the cross that way before saying grace before eating or drinking anything (not just meals). I say grace mentally, sign again, and begin to eat.

Yes alone or with a group, I say a prayer. Do others notice? Yes, no, maybe. All of the above. Never remember having a negative comment or reaction and wouldn’t matter.

Probably the sign of the Cross since folks down here are more religious in general.

I was going to say- If southerners were surprised by prayer, that would be bizarre

I always say grace before eating. Even when our parish has an ice cream day or the usual get together after Mass. Before I stopped eating in restaurants, I said grace there too. If anyone notices, maybe Jesus is laying it upon their hearts to pray too.

Yes,if it’s done at home then it should be done naturally eating out without any other intention really just keeping it normal.I do feel much more self conscious these days as there is an anti catholic feel in the air with
Tribuneral going on.My parents always do .

I say the Grace Before Meal prayer everytime whether at home or in public It is a natural thing to do.

How do you reconcile public prayer with [Matthew 6:5-6]
By learning the actual context of that verse.
I am aware of the context, but I had to ask when I read this reply upthread:
I always do.

And I make a big sign of the cross over the table then on myself.

I look forward to the opportunity to be mocked for the sake of Christ.
Is it desirable to make a big show of it, looking forward to being mocked?

Thanks. I had a feeling that was the case, but could not be sure.

I do it in front of people, but in low voice. The sign of cross I do a bit louder so people know I’m praying and saying grace.

Always be courageous and show your faith to others. And be a good example. This is how you win souls.
