Hey all,
Hate starting a new thread just for this question, but I’m teaching an apologetics class at my church, and in a couple weeks, we’ll reach “Faith Alone vs. Faith + Works”. Now, I’ve got the lesson plan all ready to go, except I’m having trouble locating something in the Catechism. I remember a great paragraph on justification stating that we are saved by grace and justified by faith, but that our faith is justified by our works. The index and TOC aren’t being very useful, but I’d really like to find it (or a paragraph similar to it) to show the members of the class what the church really teaches about this, contrary to the “Catholics think they can work their way to heaven argument”. Anyone able to give me a paragraph number? Also, did I word the above formula about justification appropriately?
Anyway, just to add more to the conversation, we had our first class this last Tuesday - the topic was “The Bible: What It Is . . . And Isn’t”. And we explored the idea of Tradition and the silliness of sola-Scriptura. Had a great turn-out, and everyone seemed to be very excited about the class at the end. A good mix of cradle-Catholics and new converts. Next week - “The Pope and Infallibility - A Rock-Solid Foundation.” Anyone else having luck with similar studies or classes at their parish?
