I need suggestions. Mostly I just say: “Thank you, Lord, for the blessings which I am about to receive. Amen.”
Is that enough or should I expand it?

Yes, this is more accurate- Grace, before and after meals. The traditional Catholic prayer before the meal is:
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
After the meal:
We give Thee thanks, O Almighty God, for these Thy benefits which we have received from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I have heard another version sung at parish potlucks to the tune of Edelweise:
*Bless our friends,
Bless our food,
Come, O Lord and sit with us.
May our talk
Glow with peace;
Come with your love to surround us.
Friendship and love
May they bloom and glow,
Bloom and glow forever.
Bless our friends,
Bless our food,
Bless all mankind forever.*

:tsktsk: Now you know that is not proper- but it was darn funnyMy father’s favorite grace:
Grace in the kitchen
Grace in the hall
For heaven’s sake, Grace
Don’t eat it all!

Sometimes it’s hard to tell when the meal is over. Especially when people just “wander off” when they’re finished.I like the traditional grace, but I always forget to say grace after meals.
THAT seems eminently believable, though I’ve NEVER thought about it before! It’s also a good idea to pray during cooking. Prayer makes food taste better.![]()
