I am back from another retreat for Alcoholics. Yes, yes; I know, I know. The topic for the AA weekend was “GRACE”, in all its forms. I had a conference with the moderator on my struggles with “The Noonday Demon”. It came back to Grace, and faith that God was working on the problem. :heaven:

As usual, my Brother took care of the cats while I was gone. My cleaning lady also came over for the monthly cleanup, leaving me the task of finding out where she put all the stuff I had all over the place. When I returned home at 1 PM today, the cats spent all of 15 minutes to welcome me and make it clear just how much they missed me. Then back to their usual activities, most of which ignored me.

Tomorrow, Memorial Day, will be spent at home. I need to do laundry, and scrub down a couple of litter boxes.

Meanwhile, I am also getting ready for my cateract operation on Tuesday, which requires me to get up at 5:30 AM instead of my usual 10:30 AM. I don’t DO mornings. In any case, I should be back by noon. I spend the rest of the week at home in recovery, and return to work on 2 June to the usual questions as to why I used sick leave when I could have used vacation time.

Keeping your AA efforts in prayer. Grace is always at work we can depend on that whatever our struggle/battle may be…and we all struggle/battle somewhere.

27 May 2008. All went well on the eye surgery. Brother had to wake me up at 5:35 AM, but we arrived at the surgery center by 5:50 AM. I went through the usual prep procedures, was wheeled into the operating room, and remember nothing until I woke up about 2 PM in my bed at home. Thank you, brother.

Since then I have mostly stayed in bed, putting in eyedrops every two hours, reassuring the cats that they are the most important people in my life, and listening to classical music. I had supper about 7 PM, my only solid food for today.

So far, so good.

Ahhhh cats…someone told that dogs have masters and cats have servants I have one of each and love them to pieces…though they rule the house and entirely my fault because they are spoilt.

what do you mean, you have cats and you don’t “do” mornings?! I never heard of a cat who would allow their master to sleep after 5 am w/o providing food and entertainment.

This shows one of the HUGE advantages of adopting senior and geriatric cats. They are well beyond the ants-in-the-pants stage of kittyhood. They tend to be mellow and laid back.

And they can be trained to better behavior if needed. In this case, if a cat woke me up before 10 AM or so, I would pick her up, take her to the bathroom, and leave her there until about 11 AM. No punishment, no “bad cat”…just put into exile in the bathroom for a few hours. They got the message.

Of course, once I do wake up at 10 AM or 11 AM, then the purring and rubbing start. But until then, they sleep at night on my bed without disturbing me.
