Since Jesus was without sin, he was in Gods Grace his whole life, right? Then did he (unite) with the Father to send His Spirit as a helper? Can people keep Grace also?
Tim

Thanks John,
By the discription of the link, I’m talking about actual Grace.
Tim

Peace be with you,
Grace is a gratuitous gift from God. Grace is being showered upon us all the time, the problem occurs when we choose not to accept it. (i.e. sin, clingings, etc.) There is nothing humans can do to merit Grace. We can pray for a more open awareness of Grace is our lives. But remember that God makes the initiative to deliver Actual Grace.
As to the Holy Spirit; think of the Nicene Creed and what we profess about the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is God’s voice and kind of deliverer of Grace: think about Pentecost and the various symbols used to indicate the Holy Spirit: fire, dove, finger, water, etc…

I hope this helps.
In the Hope of our Risen Lord and Savior,
Cth

If you commit a mortal sin you are no longer in a state of grace. You would then need the Sacrament of Reconciliation to get back into a state of grace.

That is the case for sanctifying grace - Tim said he is talking about actual grace.

As far as I know, grace is always God’s to give and to take away. If God ‘lets’ you keep an actual grace He has given you and if you choose to keep it, then I guess you will always have it. One example of this - the grace that allowed Mary to remain sinless during her life was an actual grace, and she kept it her whole life.

I think that with some graces, God will only give you them when you need them. Do you need, say, fortitude when you are asleep, eating your breakfast, or whatever? No. Maybe when you really need to stand your ground on something, God will give you a grace to increase your fortitude, and maybe once you don’t need it anymore the grace will leave you.

On the other hand there are graces which God always wants you to ahve, like charity, faith and hope. You can keep these graces so long as you don’t reject them by sinning against charity, faith or hope - as far as I know.

Thanks Flopfoot,
I guess I did really need it this week. But, friday my Dr. said my cancer scars are still stable (2 1/2 years) 🙂 . And that finally eased my anxiety. Now I wish I had listened to those not so suttle signs and been at peace, not scared. I thank God for his mercies and graces, Tim
