I have an off and on devotion to St. Philomena.
I have made novenas to her for specific things
and never received a favorable answer to my petitions
for those things, so now I just ask her for spiritual help
for me and my family.

On the other hand, an elderly gentleman I know
had begun having serious physical pain.
I gave him a St. Philomena prayer card and some of
the blessed St. Philomena Oil from her Shrine in
Mugnano, Italy. He began praying to her and applying
the holy Oil, and he has found dramatic relief through
St. Philomena !!

**August 10 is the day that according to approved sources is the day St. Philomena entered Paradise. **
Let us all ask her powerful intercession.

Remember, St. Josaphat Catholic Church in Detroit, MI is holding devotions in honor of
St. Philomena after the 9:30 AM Tridentine Mass. www.detroitlatinmass.org

We are St. Philomena fans! 🙂

She helped me during my most recent labor and delivery–everything went so well! I was wearing the St. Philomena Cord, and when I had to remove it for my epidural, I wrapped it around my wrist.

She also helped my husband pass an extremely difficult exam that only 40% of testers pass (and 95% of those only pass by the skin of their teeth).

I thought her Feast Day is Aug 11?

The Feast is August 11. However, she really died on August 10 but due to the Feast of St. Lawrence, the Church put it on August 11. Now, I know the feast is no longer part of the calendar, places of devotion l(ike the shrine in Italy) may still celebrate the Feast on August 11.

It is nice to hear about the graces you have received from the Virgin and Martyr.

Has anyone here read I Ask St. Philomena by Rick Medina?

I want to know more about her knocking.
Anyone experienced this?

Rick Medina’s book on St. Philomena is a great little book !!
I’ve read it. It’s not as detailed on her life as, say,
St. Philomena the Wonder Worker published by TAN, but it’s a great intro to St. Philomena and to the value of asking for the Prayers of the Saints in Heaven in general. Get Rick Medina’s book, you won’t regret it.

I too have heard over and over again that many clients of St. Philomena hear a knocking sound just before she grants the favor they are seeking, but I’ve never heard the knocks myself.

God bless,

I pray her Chaplet everyday, my husband and I are both enrolled in her Living Rosary Association, and our businesses are doing well because they are consecrated to her, she helped us get a building and racks to put in the building. We truly love her.

guys, thanks for your wonderful testimonies. 🙂

is the Rick Medina book available in an online version? It’s very hard to find Catholic books from where I am, only limited titles are available. Most of the books I want aren’t available.

I want to read this book because it also talks about coincidences and nudges of the patron saint, as you’ve said. St. Philomena often does that.

I also pray her chaplet daily , I wear her Cord & a member of the Living Rosary.

St. Philomena has helped in so many ways…with my treadmill, my husband, school…even with the weather!

I love her so much and I’m so blessed she chose me to be one of her friends!

Like everything Our Lady says is true: Of Philomena, nothing is refused.

St. Philomena favors
As many of you may know, at St. Josaphat Catholic Church in Detroit MI where the Tridentine Mass is offered with the proper indult, we have had special devotions in honor of this virgin martyr. These devotions began in August of 2005 and are held three times every year (The next and last devotion of this year will be **August 12, 2007 **so mark your calendars if you live in the area).

I have decided to begin collecting testimonials of favors received through St. Philomena’s intercession as a result of coming to St. Josaphat for the devotions or as a result of taking a prayer card from St. Josaphat a praying privately for the saint’s intercession. Other testimonials are welcome as well.
If you have attended one of the devotions at St. Josaphat or know someone who has and has received a favor, please send me a private message or if you want, you can post it here publicly on this thread.

Note: I feel that is was more appropriate to put this on a separate thread rather than place it on the Detroit’s Tridentine Mass thread because I don’t want the Detroit Tridentine Mass thread to get overloaded or way off topic.

This occured in September 2006. At that time a friend of mine whose schizoid condition was usually under control by medication, began to enter a crisis. The situation simply became more and mor eserious as the days progressed, my friend refusing to attempt hospitalization. I recommended his person to St. Philomena not knowing what would be the result. Briefly, he abruptly undertook hospitalization himself and is now living in a group home. He was not “cured” nor did I expect him to be. What did happen was that his becmae a controlled and peaceful situation in which he now lives and is happy. I should say too that this individual is a devout Catholic and a courageous one, cognizant of his condition and accepting it from God as something which he will have for life, offering his suffering back to God for whatever God wills. I think St. Philomena took care of him in the most efficient and supportive way possible. I am grateful to her for this and for his life.

I did a novena to St. Philomena to help me meet someone that was going to be uplifting, caring, supporting and that I have alot in common with. I’m not catholic (though I’m considering becoming one) I wasn’t sure if my novena would be answered. I did this for 9 days, the first part of december last year. On Christmas day I went to a friends Christmas party and I met a man that fits what I prayed for 100%. He has become a wonderful friend and someone I enjoy spending time with.
I know her intercession and prayers for me were answered, whether it lasts or not with this gentleman I don’t know…but she answered my prayer and definately increased my faith. So I thought I would share this with all of you because its pretty awesome!

Well, the Feast of St. Philomena is traditionally August 11. Before anyone debates, it is still observed liturgically in those places where special veneration is present or in places where she is still a patron. The rector of the Shrine in Italy made this clarification. So, although it is late, here is a Novena for St. Philomena.

NOVENA IN HONOR OF ST. PHILOMENA VIRGIN & MARTYR

O St. Philomena, behold me before the bright throne whereon the August Trinity hath set thee, wearing thy double crown of virginity and martyrdom; behold, I lift suppliant hands to thee. Even the most cruel sufferings could not diminish the devotion of thy generous heart to the Celestial Lover Who was thy joy. And now thy Lord, to recompense those sufferings, wills to glorify thee by the mightiness of thine intercession.

Therefore it is to thee, O illustrious Martyr, that I lift my suppliant hands. Ah! from the heights of the heavenly country, deign to cast a glance upon me, thy humble client. O pure Virgin, O Holy Martyr, solace me in suffering and temptation, sustain me in trial and persecution, assist me in danger, and above all at the awful hour of death, when I shall have to combat all the powers of Hell, pray for me in that final moment upon which my eternity hangs. Amen

Jesu, coróna Vírginum
(Anon. Hymn from the Vespers of a Virgin Martyr)

Jesu, coróna Vírginum,
Quem Mater illa cóncipit
Quæ sola Virgo párturit,
Hæc vota clemens áccipe :

Qui pergis inter lília
Septus choréis Vírginum,
Sponsus decórus glória

Sponsísque reddens præmia.
Quocúmque tendis, Vírgines
Sequúntur, atque láudibus

Post te canéntes cúrsitant,
Hymnósque dulces pérsonant ;

Te deprecámur súpplices,
Nostris ut addas sénsibus
Nescíre prorsus ómnia
Corruptiónis vúlnera.
Virtus, honor, laus, glória

Deo Patri cum Fílio,
Sancto simul Paráclito,
In sæculórum sæcula. Amen.

Amen.

For St. Philomena’s intentions

I prayed a novena to St. Philomena because I needed to have a surgery. My health insurance was going to pay for the surgery but I had no way to for the 3 weeks I would be off work. A person I know was kind enough to offer to pay me a check for those three weeks I’d be off - with no interest. I do of course have to pay them back, but its not a rush. 🙂

Since the publication of my book, “I Ask St. Philomena” in September 2003, I have received letters from all around the world from people who have been favored with the powerful intercession of this most compassionate saint.

To anybody wondering what all the excitement is about, sincerely seek her and you will see 🙂

God Bless

-Rick Medina

i’ve asked St. Philomena for many favors. a recent one is with my studies. I prayed really hard , asking for her prayers. She helped me and my classmate, and I am very thankful to her. I also recommend other people to her in my prayers, praying to her to help people I know. 🙂

Thanks st. Philomena! We love you!

I’ve read your book and it’s great. Thanks for spreading devotion to this wonderful saint.

I am currently praying to Philomena daily and I wear her medal.
I have yet to receive an answer to my intentions, though my hopes are high.

I will let you know how it turns out.

I have a strong interest in this saint. As I posted on the thread St. Philomena Stories…she came into my life through my accidental finding of her chaplet and her pamphlet of prayers. I have been praying to her regularly for a special intention on behalf of my daughter. While no answer has been received as of yet…I do feel more peaceful when praying to a saint that other saints and popes have said that her intercessions have never been refused by our Heavenly Father.

I am fascinated by her and am trying to learn all about her. I know this thread already has experiences with St. Philomena…but I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has had prayers favorably granted by her intercession and if so…what your experience was like. I definitely will be posting when my prayer is granted.

Thank you!
