Grandfather had another stroke / Other problems

I couldn’t find my earlier thread but please continue to pray for my grandfather. After his first bout at the hospital with the stroke and having a feeding tube put in his stomach, my grandmother forced the doctors to let them come home (he didn’t need to!) and now about 2 1/2 weeks or so later, he has had another stroke while at home and possibly is now completely paralyzed. I am waiting to hear something now and I’m going to the hospital after work to see them. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers, we are going through some tough times with health (my dad has TMJ and is having problems with that) and several other things are going on right now that are putting a mental and physical strain on all of us. Thank you so much for all your prayers.

Keeping your family in prayer at this difficult time of illness…
 
Thank you so much for all your prayers. Just to give you an update, my grandfather doesn’t seem to be doing well. He had fallen and hit his head on the tub at home and none of us knew it. My grandmother didn’t tell us. She’s not capable of taking care of him anymore and her main concern at this point (this is according to her), is just to go home. She doesn’t want him to go to a nursing home or stay in the hospital. So our next step is going to have to be getting a conservatorship legally filed to make decisions for him that are in his best interest. Please continue to pray for him and me as I decide whether or not this is the best route to go.

Prayers are with you and your family. Now, a question, why do you need to take over the decision making from your grandmother? how is she not capable of taking care of him at home? How do you know that your grandmothers wishes for your grandfather ,to be at home, are “according to her” Do you know there are many resources out there to help with taking care of loved ones in their own homes?
I recently lost my mother, who had a stroke a year ago, we were able to keep her living at home until the Lord called her home. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to discuss options that were available to us. Please PM me if you have any questions. May the Lord grant you strenght and courage to make your decisions. God Bless.
 
This must be a difficult time for you all. Will keep your grandfather and also grandmother in prayer, with your whole family in this decision making process.

Thank you for your prayers. About my grandmother, lets put it this way, she has the early signs of dementia/Alzheimers and she is not physically or mentall capable of taking care of him. The doctor has even said it. They are getting home health care but that is only a couple of times a week. No offense but you don’t know them and how they don’t WANT help from anyone. We asked if we could get a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare doneAt this point a legal conservatorship is all that can be done if they don’t go into a nursing home.

Just to give everyone an update, this morning my grandmother left my grandfather’s room to go smoke and they couldn’t find her and she had ended up outside the hospital and had passed out on the ground. She is now in the emergency room and I don’t know if she will be admitted or not. I am waiting on a call from the doctor to see what is going on. According to the doctor, she can’t take care of my grandfather if they go home so his suggestion is that they go to a step-down rehab facility/nursing home. Again, thank you for all your prayers.

No offense taken. My mother was also unwilling to accept that she couldn’t live at home by herself. It’s a hard thing to have strangers come into your house and know your business, but she also didn’t want to go to a nursing home so I gave her the option of nursing home or staying at home with help from others. She adjusted quite well, we had 24 hour care for her in her home. There are a lot of programs that pay for many hours of in home care. Anyhow, prayers to you and your family.
