Ive been talking With my grandparents and my beloved aunt about my interest in finding out more about Catholicism a several of times in the last 6 months, but I have allways refered to Catholics as “THEY” and it has been ok for them as long as I have kept a distance between catholisicm and myself.

Well tonight once again the subject occured when I visited them for a cup of coffee.
I said that Ive been to mass and they where quit ok With it.
As the conversation went on they started to talk quit negative about Our Pope Francis and Our Blessed mother Mary, usually Ive just said Im not interessted in talking about it when they start their negative attitude, but today I just got a bit annoyed and started to defend MY faith.

When I reffered to the Catholic faith as my own the atmosphere changed in a split secound. My Grandma (who I love so much) where on the edge of crying and stopped talking for a long time.
My aunt had this look at me, as Im now doomed becouse Im a part of The popes Church. (They dont like the Pope and the Vatican to much)

It hurts to see them like this:(
I am 100 per cent sure that the Holy Spirit are guiding me into the Church so I AM going to convert next spring, but its so painful to see that they think Im not going to heaven.
it tears me apart:(

I pray for them in every mass, for their well being and for God to open their eyes and lead them to the Church, but it seems highly unlikely that they will ever convert.

The worst thing about this is that I have a strong feeling of vocation to either the Dominicans or the Franciscans. I am so worried about how they will take it if Im going to enter a order.
I now its several years until I have to take that desition, but nevertheless it scares me to even think about it. I will live my life as the Lord requires of me and my own feelings will not be important when I will make my desition, but its difficult.

When I am saying this. I have to praise the Lord for giving me such a wonderful Family and Im so lucky to have both parrents supporting my choise to convert to catholisicm.

I dont know why Im even posting this. I just need to release some pressure I think…

If anyone has some similar experience please share it with me.

God Bless you all!

I am so sorry you are going through this! And God bless you for following the lead of the Holy Spirit.

Obviously some of your relatives have heard a lot of things about the Church that were not factual. Just keep focusing on the Lord in your struggles, and He will take care of everything. Ask our Blessed Mother to help as well. Keep loving them, and maybe not discuss religion with them unless they are open to hearing your side. They don’t have to agree with you, but hopefully they can be tolerant. And, perhaps they will learn some positive things from you!

Talking bad about the mother of God can’t be good. Better to say nothing. Good luck on your journey of faith, may the Holy Spirit guide you.

A warm family as I can see.
Love them all, let them see the church in the love that you greatly have for them even in the midst of them not being able to understand your faith.
Your story reminded me of the saints. St. Frances Xavier Seelos for example was rejected even by fellow church members.
I know St. Louis de Montfort, St Padre Pio and St. Therese the little flower whom we are praying her Novena towards the feast day and many others faced the same challenges. St. Seelos however said, if you want to be Holy, be Happy and if you want to be Very Holy, Be Very Happy. And in the midst of any rejections, a light of happiness emanated from him. Happiness, love, Joy, Peace …are signs of God’s presence.
Padre Pio said, Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry.
My thought…
You have a loving family, let the church bring you ever closer through much much love. They will realize how blessed they are to have you laying your life to serve Jesus, God will speak in their hearts, let’s ask him to speak to them and to all the families that may be going through the same thing.
Let’s pray 1 our father and 1 Hail Mary today; God will talk to them in His Will.
St . Catherine Emerich said, the families for which Saints and holy people come from, have many many even 100 generations of blessings because of the intercession and prayers offered by them in heaven.
God bless.

When they are feeling sad about your decision toward catholocism, maybe it would help them to mention that in their faith they believe that each person should make up their own mind when they are older. That their faith gravitates more towards freedom of the individual adult so that they can make an intellectual decision. And this is what you are doing and they should be happy that you are taking responsibility for your decisions and chosing Jesus as your Lord in your own mature way. So you’re just following what their church teaches.

In a moment when it feels right, you might also explain to them that if it had not been for the catholic church, there would be no New Testiment, for it was the catholic church which put it together so everyone would have it. So the book they cherish so much they owe thanks to the catholic church. And in all the catholic Masses a number of passages are read from the bible not only by the priest, but by the people themselves.

Wish your success.

I come from a very similar family, so my sympathies. It might be worth asking them what they think the Catholic church believes? I’ve found this is often a large part of the problem - they believe Catholics worship Mary and the saints, that we don’t believe in salvation through Christ alone, that we don’t believe forgiveness comes from God, and so forth. These are all errors caused by people not understanding what the church teaches. They might be more understanding if they were better informed.

Your faith seems strong and genuine. The Holy Spirit guides me in this same way;)

They are most likely reacting from emotions. My family did similar things. Keep your frustration under control, and seek the things you have in common.

My signature, below, is from Acts 2:42 …it strikes me as the heart of the Mass:thumbsup:

Our Pope, whom may be easier to accept for them as our bishop of Rome, brings unity and resolve through debates. Peter excercised this in Acts 15. Peter and the rest of our chief bishops are no longer that. It is an earthly position for the Church’s faithfull to have authoritative confirmation, just as Paul saught. We should pray for Francis! So he is given grace to do his job with holiness.

Welcome to the Lord’s table:)
Michael

Thanks for some good advise and for reminding me that Im not alone in my faith and struggles. May God bless all of you and fill Your harts with Grace.

Thanks for the support, to read this really warmed my hart. Yes it is indeed a priviledge to serve Jesus Our Eternal King.
I will pray for them every night and dedicate decades of my Rosary to them.
