Graphic abortion pic outside of Catholic Church

When I protest at our local abortion clinic, I find it to be very effective to carry a sign with a picture of a victim of abortion. Anyway, one of the threads here had me thinking about maybe protesting one of Catholic Churches in my diocese. The reason being, they swing very far left politically and there is going to be an openly pro abortion, pro ssm speaker at an up and coming event.
I think I will stand outside the church with my regular sign and show the truth about what the person in question espouses. I think I might also go to a few masses beforehand and do the same thing in preparation of the event and to warn the parishioners that this person is going to be in their church.
I am curious to hear your thoughts on this idea.
 
Perhaps display the Canon law specifying that one who does an abortion is excommunicated.

have tou considered talking to the pastor of this parish? might that accomlish more than picketing?
 
Make sure you stand on the public walk or public property so the Church does not remove you from their private property.

I am not sure how they would react about you coming onto private Church property with your sign, etc. especially if you are not a regular parishioner. I am not telling you not to do it, but you’re running some risk of the police being called.
 
That ship has sailed. The bishop has also been informed.

And neither have done anything??? The pastor- sad but expected, but the bishop?? what diocese are you in?
 
I don’t think it is a good idea to be protesting a Catholic church even if the pastor or parish is wrong. In an effort to educate parishioners on what’s going on, it makes the Catholic Church (big C) look divided and weak to nonbelievers. Whatever gains are made in helping fellow Catholics will to be offset by the damage to the Catholic Church’s public image. I think it can be done in a better way like talking to parishioners there (and letting it spread by word of mouth), writing a letter to the priest, getting the local paper to do a story on it, etc.
 
Is the speaker going to be advocating for abortion during the speech or are they just going to be discussing an upcoming potluck??
 
I have no idea. I just know he is a pro abort. That’s really all I need.

Have you thought about being part of the discussion and talk, instead of segregating yourself by picketing? By being part of the community, and raising your concerns in the appropriate manner you may achieve much more.

Have you discussed it with the parish priest, bishop, and diocese?

Are they talking about abortion or a completely different topic where the person may share Catholic teachings?

If they do share some of our teachings, alienating them doesn’t help the faith.
 
Did the parents of that dead human being give you permission to display their child’s photograph in public? If not you are violating the dignity of the most defenseless human being. This is a sin against that person. We do not have permission to exploit someone by displaying their photograph without express permission.

This is a question that should not be answered, especially since the OP just accused him of being pro-abortion.
 
I have the additional concern that children attend Mass. Sometimes in our zeal to fight abortion we do things that are inappropriate.

You can’t be serious? The baby killed by abortion? You want me to somehow find his or her mother and ask her for permission to show the picture of the baby she murdered??? Her baby’s voice was tossed away. Showing that picture gives a new voice to the voiceless. It is worth a thousand words. If showing that picture saves one life then it is worth the discomfort for the already born who happen to see it.

I honestly think more people need to see these pictures. It’s all too easy for people to say that it’s just a clump of cells until they actually see the pictures. This is a human baby that is being destroyed.
 
As a pro-life mother of four young children, I cringe when I notice graphic images of abortion in public (or any graphic images, really). Children deserve to have their innocence protected. I think a parent should be able to bring her children to Church without worrying that they might be exposed to something horrific on the sidewalk out front.

That’s debatable. Those pictures do have a role to play in the debate. Pictures of holocaust victims showed people the horror of that.

I agree that outside a church is probably not the place to parade them though. In fact, I am fully pro-life but I would be very angry if I was bringing small children to mass and someone was outside with pictures of that nature.

As a parent, I totally reject this argument. First of all, it is an unprovable and unlikely “if.” Second, it is not for you to traumatize children of others, or do the children not count since they are born. What you suggest makes no more since than showing kids pictures of Islamic beheadings to discourage Muslim extremism.

Parent have the right to protect their children from people that would do this.

I agree, and the also deserve to have their lives protected. Unfortunately, this person set to speak in a Catholic Church thinks otherwise.
