hi everyone…

first of all let me tell you what is graphology…1. study of handwriting: the study of handwriting, especially in order to assess somebody’s personality from patterns or features of his or her writing
2. linguistic study of writing: the study of writing systems and their relationship to the sound systems of languages

anyone who thinks this is a sin… your comments are welcome… thanks… everyone

I do not think that the study and practice of graphology is a sin. Graphology is not like astrology that is used to foretell future free events. And there is usually no recourse to demons either.

Graphology is based on the assumption that we show our personality in everything we do, even in the way we write, that means, in the way we make our letter formations. Just as we show our personality in the music we compose, the painting we make, or the way we dress, so we also show our personality in our penmanship. However, the correlation between pen strokes and personality is at best statistical, and by no means certain. Therefore, there may be some inaccuracy in it. I could believe graphology in analyzing a person’s basic tendencies, like whether a person tends to be sociable (extrovert) or solitary (introvert), or whether a person tends to be emotional or intellectual, etc., but you can’t use it to say whether a person is guilty or not guilty, or whether a person is a crook or not.

Because graphology is not 100% accurate, I would still be careful in using it to judge a person. It helps sometimes to understand a person, but any assessment we make must be confirmed by evidence or criteria other than graphology.

I studied at College, I know the principles and it works. No sin at all, why should it be?
The way you dress, the way you talk, the way you look, the way you write tell us thing about you…

I have to chime in that I see no sin in it either. It is nothing more than characteristics of a person that show up in their handwriting. I recently got a new appliance and when I signed my name on the receipt, the delivery guy said something to me about my signature. He was correct in his assessment because what he said was true and because I have also read up on graphology and had come to the same conclusion. (And yes, we both knew that signatures can be different than regular writing, and that fact was taken into account. In fact, what he said applied specifically to signatures, and it was correct. ) I think it is a very interesting sort of thing to know. 👍

I would agree with Room 222 (:p) but add that following this analysis away from deeper spiritual levels where God dwells would be sinful.

Graphology is pseudoscientific and I think that some people use it for divination (eg. your future determined by the way you write). AFAIK divination is a sin.

If you are analyzing someone’s personality that would not be a sin I guess.

However it would be used sinfully if you are trying to gain knowledge about a person and manipulate them without their knowledge.

Is body language a sin? How about dance? how about ergonomics? The way someone moves can indicate much about their state of awareness and what that might contain. Graphology is only a sub-category of movement analysis.

Might you mean “automatic writing” which indeed can be a way to invite evil spirits into one’s life?

I’ve never even heard of such a thing as “automatic writing”. It hasn’t been mentioned in this thread before, either.

To answer the invitation of the OP, no, I don’t think it’s sinful. In fact, I’m inclined to agree with Whadyamean: it’s a subcategory of movement analysis.

God bless,

Rob

I think that ‘reading’ body language can be sinful.

For example if you are trying to discern knowledge about a person without their knowledge and potentially use this knowledge for manipulation.

Graphology is another pipe dream of those who want a quick and dirty decision making process to tell them who to marry, who did the crime, who they should hire, what career they should seek, where the good hunting is, where the water, oil, or buried treasure is, etc. Graphology is another in a long list of quack substitutes for hard work. It is appealing to those who are impatient with such troublesome matters as research, evidence analysis, reasoning, logic, and hypothesis testing. If you want results and you want them now and you want them stated in strong, certain terms, graphology is for you. If, however, you can live with reasonable probabilities and uncertainty, you might try another method to pick a spouse or hire an employee.

Well, if you are so inclined, you can make up a way anything can be potentially sinful. You’ve got then entertainment lined up for a lifetime! but you can equally discover ways that such manifestations as body language are useful. If you are a parent, for instance, you can almost intuitively tell, without their saying anything, if your child is sick, up to something, or lying. What do you think is operating here? We all use the reading body language all the time to navigate our life. We understand what people mean by their body language, tone of voice, and by the dictionary meaning of what they say. But it has been shown that tone of voice and body language are mostly what we use. Way most. Think of times in your life when you felt that what was going on was different than what was being said. The reason you knew something was “up” was because you unconsciously were reading the body language.

Growing up and self assessment all have to do in part with making what is unconscious conscious, so you can competently deal with it, Body language is indifferent; bodies just do it. So why would it be wrong to be aware of what a body is telling you about the mental state or intention of whom you are reading? Now what you do with that is where a question might come in, but not simply in the abstract skill of being able to read and be aware of what that reading implies. Honestly, don’t we get a bit scrupulous sometimes about what is sinful or not?

Okay, this is really a weird area, in my experience. I’ve come across graphology in litigation… the opposing party sought to use a famous graphologist as an expert witness.

It was a simple task, disqualifying the graphologist as an expert. Our expert was a forensic document examiner, who had worked at the Secret Service/Treasury Dept. As soon as we told our expert about theirs, ours happily sent us over a huge file they had been keeping on their expert.

What really surprised me was that although our nation’s top forensic experts seem to frown upon this pseudoscience, the very same graphologist we easily disqualified has made numerous appearances on national talk shows like Larry King Live and the like… giving his expert opinion on some of the country’s biggest legal cases. 😦

Yeah, I don’t remember (automatic writing) much about it mtself. I just remember reading about it and parapsychology when I was a teen-ager (muchos, muchos anos anteriormente).

From wikipedia, a fair enough definition:
Automatic writing or psychography is writing which the writer states to be produced from a subconscious and/or spiritual source without conscious awareness of the content.
FWIW
