Grateful for EF

Just wanted to post these thoughts and see if they are shared by those who attend the EF regularly.
I went to an OF last night for a baptism. It has been a really long time since I have gone to one so I was really uncomfortable with the rubrics for the laity at first, then it kind of came back to me (for the most part). But I still had my mind in the EF so when it came time for the petitions, I usually have a list of specific people that I pray for during both the living and the dead prayers. I found that I could not pray for all I usually pray for because the quiet time was too short. So I thought, oh well, I’ll have an opportunity to focus after Communion, but the music was so loud during and after communion, that all I wanted to do was put my hands over my ears. There was also a lot of talking around me as well.
Now, I know that my preference is clearly a mass that has more quiet spaces in it than one that moves from one thing into another, but I had never noticed it before I went to an EF. It seemed like a really nice parish with lots of participation, but no offense, it made me really grateful for the more contemplative, quiet mass of the EF.
 
I share your feelings. My husband and I love our daily OF mass, but we cannot abide the weekends unless we cannot get to our EF for one reason or another. It pulls me down spiritually instead of lifting me up. Sometimes I struggle with the length of the EF (especially in August with no central air), but I wouldn’t trade it for the OF even so. And the silence of traditional music is something I greatly appreciate and cherish at the EF. I don’t need a song with modern lyrics and beats to understand my relationship with God, just peace and stillness. 👍
 
August is one of my favorite months because of the William Byrd Festival in Portland, OR. So this Friday night at 7:30 pm there is a Pontifical High Mass (1962 Rite), Bishop Meeking celebrant, with Cantores in Ecclesia doing the chant and Sacred Polyphony. Then on Saturday morning in Seattle there is a High Mass at the FSSP parish (North American Martyrs) at 11:00 am. On the 24th we hold our monthly Dominican Rite low Mass. And last Sunday, the 9th, we had a low Mass in Tacoma, WA celebrated by Fr. Ken Baker.

This is my liturgical “overload” month.
