Grave matter?

This almost sounds ridiculous and a touch paranoid:
Last night I stayed in a hotel room it was a double bed room (usually intended for two people). However three of us crashed out in the room, which may have been contrary to hotel rules? I don’t know we didn’t check. It was just three friends watching sport in a hotel room. All of a sudden I am getting paranoid… Was this as a sin? Was it stealing? O mean we paid the room rate so I don’t see the big deal…I am either wildly overreacting or maybe it’s matter for confession :eek: The hotel would probably have expected two occupants so was this deception? How serious? :eek:
 
Hotels usually have a couple of rules regarding the number of people allowed in a room. First of all there is one regarding maximum occupancy to allow for the safe evacuation of the hotel in an emergency. Most normal hotel rooms have a maximum occupancy of four people.

Some hotels charge more based on the number of people in one room.

For your case I would say, and realize that I’m no expert, that this was not a grave sin.

You did not set out to deceive the hotel or to steal from them.

You might feel better if you gave the hotel a call. Told them your story. And see if they believe that you owe them any money.

Even though I don’t think that this is a mortal sin, you will feel better if you go to confession.

I agree with the other poster. I don’t think it’s grave matter as it was not intended. You could offer restitution by explaning the situation to the hotel, the extra for another person in a room isn’t that much, I know the cheaper motels charge around 6 dollars for an extra person.
 
Thanks for the advice. My brother organised it and he said they didn’t ask for the number of guests and he was charged for the room so I guess I am going to leave the responsibility with him. He booked it under his name and paid. I will also mention it in confession. I really don’t want to ring the hotel and go through the rigmarole but would obviously do it if I have to. Do you think it’s ok just to let my bro take the responsibility for this one?

Well it seems like your brother paid a flat rate for the room, so there was no charge for extra guests. So nothing to worry about.

Let me guess. Three Poms just busting their boiler to watch the Melbourne Boxing Day Test Match and all moral sense went out the window?!! 😃

Considering the occasion, your host would probably have exercised great Charity and said “on the house” anyway!

I just hope an excess of Pride didn’t become a problem?!! 😃

I think you should go back, explain the circumstances and own up. 😉
 
Well I did not mention it in confession. My OCD told me to but I didn’t. Beat that OCD:eek:
