I am hazy on Catholic beliefs. Remind me…Just what constitutes a grave sin?? Can grave sins repented be forgiven?? Just what is this punishment the catechism was referring to??

Do you mean a mortal sin?

A mortal sin must:
  1. Be of serious or grave matter
  2. Be done with knowledge that it is wrong, grave matter
  3. Be done with deliberate consent
A mortal sin is a sin that cuts off the soul from God’s life of grace.

And yes, they can most certainly be forgiven. Anyone who is repentant and seeks forgiveness can be forgiven.

Please refer me to the part of the catechism that you are referring to, thank you.
