Gravely Wrong?

Last night I went out with some friends to the bar. When we were there another guy who we know basically came up trying to buy me a shot (which i don’t do) so I declined, plus I was the designated driver. He goes into a thing how he doesn’t care about drinking and driving (and he was drunk). I told him that’s not good and told him to “let me take him home” and he basically laughed it off and declined. He was going somewhere else and I thought about calling the police but I didn’t. Thank God he’s ok, but I feel bad about not calling the cops. Did I do something gravely wrong here? Sadly this situation happens more often than it should (which should be never), sometimes people take a ride, others don’t, but sadly alot of people are morons.

M;kay, so I gather you are both American.

Sweetheart, this boy just wants to lay you. Otherwise he would follow The Rules. Sic the police on him.
 
Wouldn’t have been a bad idea to tell the bartender or the manager. Many bars take it seriously when drunks try to drive home by themselves. May not have made a difference, but still not a bad idea.
 
You know it was nice of you too offer him a ride but next time offer the person in that situation a cab ride or tell the bartender/manager this fellow needs a ride home because he is full.

Don’t offer people who you do not know well a ride when they are drunk they can end up being a handful. Even if they are docile you have to get them to their door if they end up getting into that impaired motor skill level.

It’s a noble thing to be a DD but be weary of who you DD for. It could be a long night. Also bars can be fun but if you go to bars where people insist you do shots it’s time to find a new bar or new people to hang with.

On occassion I will socially drink with friends mostly at one of their homes after work or at the golf course, I am surrounded by a group that doesn’t let anyone drink and drive. So I’m fortunate to have found this group. Not that I get smashed at every oppurtunity to hang with them but as an unwritten rule no one drinks and drives.
 
dont give anyone a ride home that you don’t know, be safe. Tell the bartender and it is then his responsibiltiy to make sure that person does not drive!!! If they are with other people talk to them maybe also.
