I’ve been asked last minute to do a reading at a graveside memorial he’s having for his mother tomorrow morning. She was a practicing Catholic and had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the last couple years. She did receive last rights. My friend is not a practicing Catholic and there are only going to be a handful of people there. Can anyone help me out? My knowledge of scripture in this case is admittedly lacking. Much thanks.

I cannot help you with your specific question. I will say that it is so unfortunate when Catholics have non-practicing relatives planning their funeral services, and they don’t get the services they deserve. Perhaps you could ask your or her pastor if a Mass could be said for her.
