Gravity Falls:Popular Disney Show

So there is this very popular cartoon show out there called Gravity Falls which has become quite a hit in recent years.

It began in 2012 and ended in Feburary 2016.Scouring over the Internet I came across multiple reviews of the show but not really that many from specifically Catholic/Christian reviewers and whatnot.

So I wanted to ask you folks here at the Popular Media forums if you’ve heard about the show and if any of you have watched it or are even fans of it.

So, what are your thoughts on it?

So, what are your thoughts on it?

Sorry. I cut the cable due to the Disney kids shows after seeing how they depicted the parents/adults as clueless idiots or worse. Kids more savvy and ‘enlightened’ then their parents. Thought it was a very bad message for children, so I have no clue about the show. I do have a strong opinion about exposing kids to the Disney channel.

My sister and her friends are obsessed.

I watched a couple of episodes. It was cute and funny but I was uneasy bc the villain was character who is a triangle and had 1 eye.

LOL I’m that person lol. I just felt uncomfortable. Didn’t notice my sister being negatively affected. She argued it was a demon and a bad character and nobody likes him.

My 18 year old son and 10 year old daughter watched it together each time it was on. I trust my son to tell me the truth regarding inappropriate shows or anything that goes against our value system. He assures me there is nothing wrong with it.

I guess it is like a mystery show of some sorts. They are really into it.

I have the same concerns about the way parents are portrayed in a lot of the kids shows today.

I didn’t see that problem with Gravity Falls. The main characters are spending the summer with their uncle. He is eccentric but not the normal “dumb” self absorbed character that a lot of the shows portray.

My middle daughter really, really like the show.

It’s funny that the other day my youngest daughter made some observations about Disney show. When she heard someone talking about a new show she said “Let me guess… the dad is totally dumb and the mom is a complete nag?!?” Even the kids see problems with shows.

I’ve seen the whole series, and I don’t recall any major problems with it. If you’re uneasy with your children seeing any kind of “magic”/“occult” things in fiction, then it’s not the show for you, but as far as I recall it certainly does not encourage the viewer to be involved in the occult. Most of the magical elements are either “the bad guys,” or are just your general fantasy tropes. The last few episodes have an apocalypse arc, so naturally if you’re not into kids seeing a non-Christian interpretation of that then skip (but I don’t think it had anything expressly anti-Christian). The kids’ uncle is a mason, but you only know this because he wears a Fez and mentions that the lodge kicked him out once. The main villain later in the show is the eye-triangle previously mentioned, but this shape is not explored as being masonic and the character is not portrayed as a “good guy.” I really enjoyed the show and think it has a lot of positive qualities - importance of family, clear-cut good vs evil, endearing characters.

The kids’ uncle is a mason, but you only know this because he wears a Fez and mentions that the lodge kicked him out once.

Grunkle Stan isn’t a Mason, but a member of a generic “wacky fraternal organization” like the Flintstones’ Loyal Order of Water Buffalo – his is the Order of the Mackerel or something.

My husband watched with my kids. They enjoyed it. Dipper is voiced by John Ritter’s son, btw.

I haven’t seen all the episodes, but I did enjoy the one with the boy band who were actually clones. That episode had to be for the moms.
