My pastor is making my parish more traditional. At Mass today, the altar boys were wearing cassocks and surplices. The priest also comes out of the sacristy now and the altar boy rings a bell by the sacristy door, then the organist begins playing and the procession starts. He wrote about the changes in the bulletin. He said that the albs that the altar boys had worn were getting shabby, and he wanted something nicer for them to wear. He also said that he did not like standing in the back of the church and waving his arms to let the organist know when Mass was starting, so he installed bells by the sacristy door. He has already gotten some new statues and had the statue of our patron Saint restored and placed in the sanctuary. He also brought back the bells during the Epiclesis and after the Consecration of the Host and Chalice. He is getting rid of the carpet in the sanctuary and putting in marble on the sanctuary floor after New Year’s. He mentioned that he will be replacing more liturgical items and asked parishioners to donate for these items. The reaction by the congregation to the bells and cassocks/surplices worn by the altar boys was great. Things are looking up in my parish.
