We just started this last night at St. Pats. I’m extremely excited-Jeff Cavins is SO Charismatic in the videos. Has anyone here done this program? What to expect?

I’m truly pleased to see our bishop encouraging the lay people to get more in depth with their faith through programs like this. I also learned last night we have two men who are going to be deacons! Thanks to everyone on this board who has helped me get more in to the faith!

Great! I haven’t done the program but I’ve thought about it. I’ll check back to see what others have said.

What diocese are you in?

Hello!

We started the program last week at our parish as well! Unfortunately, due to weather, we canceled our meeting for this week.

God bless!

We are just about halfway through right now. Its really interesting. Jeff Cavins lectures are great. Another parish in town did the GA study last year and now they are doing the Gospel of Matthew (also by Jeff Cavins). I don’t know how many studies there are but I’m looking forward to taking all of them!

My parish is doing this very bible study right now. We are up to Session 11:thumbsup:

I have read the Old Testement many times, mostly in a state of slight confusion as to the more subtle meanings. Now when I go back and re-read those books, it makes more sense to me, I have a better understanding and I feel like I actually know the OT people better. After this program, we are going to start his other bible study programs on the New Testement, not sure which one yet.

From reading his autobiography, its hard to imagine Jeff Cavins having a public speaking problem. His sense of timing is so incredible as well.

Now, about his jokes…:rotfl:

I’m in the Diocese of Peoria, in central IL. We have a relatively new Bishop (since 2002) who has been a bit more active in encouraging adult study, and seems to be a bit less active in moving priests around the diocese, both things I’m in favor of.👍

Several years ago I completed the Great Adventure study in Jeff’s home parish in Ham Lake, MN during the taping of the study. Expect to build a foundation for a life-long study of the bible. It also really helps to come well prepared for the small group discussion.

Follow it up with “Our Father’s Plan” by Jeff Cavins and Scott Hahn.

“Great Adventure Bible Study” goes hand-in-hand with “Our Father’s Plan.”

Awesome stuff.

way too expensive to buy the DVDs and workbooks for the number of people who wuold likely participate (30-40), would like to do the teen plan, but even there the workbooks for 12 week study cost more than our textbooks.

Had the extreme pleasure of participating in the Great Adventure last year during lent. We had Christine Franklin(who is on EWTN) do our study. She is a member of my parish. It was amazing, we learned things like: John the Baptist was baptising in the same place that Joshua led the Israelites across the Jordan into Jericho, how cool is that, it has taught me so much about reading the bible. Have fun, and to reiterate on someone elses comment “It is a life long journey”

I did this one at St. Pat’s here in Wisconsin 2 years ago. I think the cost for about 60 of us ran about 45$. We subsequently could use the DVD’s to offer it two more times. I don’t know what the cost was there. Presently in Cavin’s study of Matthew. which also takes about half a year, but it is also very good. The time-line study gives one a lot of insight into the relation of the OT to the NT.👍 👍
