I am still trying to figure out where all this opposition is. Out here, the whole thing has managed a peep or two, and mostly from those who favor the return of the EF. Other than some comments related that there was oppostion on the part of some bishops (and that was not detailed), I have heard almost nothing.That is a great quote. I also like this one.

The Ecclesia Dei Commission will look into changes with the Calendar and Prefaces. Fr. Baker wasn’t against that in his article. He is afraid of rubrical and textual changes to the Mass. He is saying the if people think they can update prefaces and the calendar…they think they can change the rites also. Traditionalists (including myself) DO NOT want a change to the rubrics or texts…most are okay with adding new saints to the calendar (not taking away feasts mind you) and SOME new prefaces. We want to be assured of this rite of Mass (TLM) won’t change, because we are so attached to the TLM that a little tinkering of the text and rubrics may make people join schismatic groups and if tinkering with rubrics occurs schismatic groups won’t enter the ChurchFr. Baker makes the comment that some traditionalists do not want endless tinkering, and asks why bring this up? He then comments about the Mass being fixed and permanent. Interestingly, the two issues he brings up are in the Pope’s letter, and the Pope then says that the “Ecclesia Dei” Commission will study that. If the Commission has been directed to study the issue, then one would be reasonably safe to presume that since that study was directed by the Pope, there is a reasonable chance that some changes will occur.
Every movement, text, and rubric has a symbolism in the TLM. True someone may not notice, but God does, and we will in our missals. I wonder how many people in the pew would even be aware of tinkering with the text and rubrics of the Missal of Bl. John–something that has gone on with the Tridentine rite ever since Quo Primum.
