So I’m sure this book must have been brought up before, but I absolutely love Handbook of Catholic Apologetics by Peter Kreeft and Ronald Tacelli. As someone who often gets stuck in her rational mind, and philosophical proofs, this book is Heaven sent. If you haven’t read it, I most certainly recommend it!👍

I’ll look into it. I just finished reading The Godless Delusion by Patrick Madrid and Kenneth Hensley. They recommended that book in the very end.

It is a good book.

My main criticism of it is that some parts are very declarative and academic, like 1 this. 2 that. 3 the other thing – the kind of style that we all hated as schoolchildren, and some parts veer into mild inspirational writing. So its a little uneven in style terms. I chalk it up to the differing writing styles of the two authors.

I should point out that that criticism is somewhat nitpicky. Perhaps, but that being the strongest criticism I can levy suggests the book is a good one.

Note this book is not something you’d put on your bedside table, or take with you on a cruise as casual reading. It is more of a reference, or a study guide say to be used in conjunction with a Scripture class or somesuch.

But if one wants to understand not only the what of Catholicism but also the why, IMO it’s a must have.

Agreed. 👍 Fantastic book.

I had the immense privilege to study under both the professor and the good Father when I was an undergrad. I highly recommend this book, and anything else they have written. I know of many people who took Fr. Tacelli’s “Does God Exist?” course thinking they would get the better of him, and came of of the class and straight in RCIA.

Not to derail the thread, but I understand that Kreeft’s first novel, “An Ocean Full of Angels” has been released. Can’t wait to get my copy!
