Just wanted to brag a little about our deacon’s homily this weekend. He was discussing how the reading from Isaiah was the first reading Jesus read in the temple (in public) and how when he said that it was fulfilled, the leaders kicked him out and tried to push him off of a cliff because they didn’t want to believe that one of their “own” could be the savior. Then our deacon proceeded to compare it to “Cafeteria Catholics” (yes, he used this term) and said they are the same way, “yes, I’ll buy the teachings on abortion but I won’t buy the Church’s teachings on contraception”. I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my parish and how our deacon and pastor will not coward toward being popular over being right and teaching the faith. This is the first homily in my life I’ve heard contraception even mentioned.

My PV preached an awesome homily this past weekend. He talked about the three things St. Paul noted in his Epistle and explained them in great detail. He explained what it meant to rejoice. It doesn’t always mean walking aorund with a smile on one’s face; rather, it means to have a deep, interior joy. He explained that “praying without ceasing” doesn’t necessarily mean raising your hands in prayer and chanting “alabare” all of the time. It means being conscience of the presence of God around you. It means entering into a deeper relationship with God. As for always giving thanks, he said that we should consider the good and the bad a blessing. He said that St. Therese of Liseux had a saying “everything is a blessing.”
