Canada’s Catholic bishops will consecrate their country to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary this year, which marks the 150th anniversary of Canada’s birthday.

The consecrations will be done individually by each bishop of his own diocese on July 1 and collectively by all of Canada’s bishops gathered in Ottawa during their plenary assembly in September.

Each bishop is invited to consecrate his individual diocese or eparchy on 1 July 2017 … Later in the year, all the bishops of Canada will be invited to participate jointly in the consecration of the country to the Blessed Mother following the celebration of the Holy Eucharist during the CCCB Plenary Assembly in September 2017…

…Now in 2017, 70 years after the country was first consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Heart, it will be re-consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s appearance in Fatima, Portugal. During those apparitions, subsequently approved by the Catholic Church, Mary called for devotion to her Immaculate Heart. “My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.”

May more nations of the world turn to Mary especially during this 100th Anniversary Year of Mary’s Apparitions at Fatima and heed her message. From the time she spoke to the servants at Cana, Mary’s words have always been in essence: “Do whatever He tells you”. St. Louis De Montfort wrote that Mary is the echo of God. It was significant to me that this statement was published by the Canadian Bishops on Apr. 28 – the Feast of St. Louis de Montfort – great promoter of Consecration to Jesus through Mary in his classic treatise, “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary”
 
As is sung in our National Anthem:

God keep our Land,
Glorious and Free,

O Canada, we stand
on guard for Thee!!”
