Great religious movies!

[Rosarydevotion]

Just saw Song of Bernadette last night and loved it. Made me realize how much movies can inspire. Wanted to start a thread for people to recommend movies to enhance our spiritual lives.

Thanks and God Bless!

There was an excellent 1980 film starring Ellen Burstyn called “Resurrection” that is hard to find, but well worth seeing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resurrection_(1980_film

Pax Christi!

When I was 8 or 9, I watched The Song of Bernadette and at one point kissed the TV screen!

May Eternal Light soon shine upon you, Jennifer Jones.

God bless.

Francis of Assisi

Ben-Hur

The Nun’s Story

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness

Quo Vadis (haven’t seen the movie, but I loved the book)

[GoldenSeal]

I saw the movie version of Quo Vadis. It was excellent, and Peter Ustinov was perfect as the Roman emperor Nero.

The Blues Brothers ?

*Hey the plot was performing a charitable act of mercy by saving the orphanage for the sisters, which they did even if it wound up getting them arrested again… *

Some may dispute if this is a religious movie…

Well, if you’re gonna go that route…
Sister Act.
Okay, maybe not for the story itself, but I liked how the song My Guy was made into a song for Our Father…
(Though, if I remember correctly, she did turn her life around by being in such a Holy environment…and she brought in the masses for the Masses!!)

[mexolic]

Many years ago I saw The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima on television. It’s a 1952 color movie starring Gilbert Roland. It’s the true story of the of the apparitions of Our Lady in Portugal in 1917. I would like to see that movie again.

I just saw The Miracle of Marcelino (1955), iTunes has it. Funny and a little sad at times, but a wonderful film!

Thanks for all your suggestions, there’s a few here that I haven’t seen. Adding to my list!

Passion. By Mel Gibson

[Caroline723]

On the Waterfront - my all time favorite movie with religious undertones. Also, my favorite cinematic priest character, played by Karl Madden.

I love this one. The quote, I’m on a mission from God is used almost daily in our home!
