“Restless Heart” about saint Augustine, it was amazing I watched it twice so far.

I have a few…

Some are obvious: Jesus of Nazareth, which is still the best overall telling of Jesus’ life, The Passion, Gospel of John, which I had never heard of, but blown away by it.

And one not so obvious: A little gem starring Lionel Barrymore called On Borrowed Time which is not really religious, but it does have moral themes.

The movie about the life of St Teresa de los Andes. So touching!

I read that the actress incarnated so realistically St Teresa that people used to stop her on the street and ask for her blessing. 😃

I ordered the DVD of The Gospel of John from Amazon; will get it Monday. I read the reviews and I can’t wait to see it! Thanks for mentioning it. 😃

There is a really great trilogy:
The theme is Jesus coming to some modern-day people who have issues with religion due to some negative experiences…

These are done by Protestants and there may be a couple of issues for Catholics, but I think they are excellent, esp for those who are somewhat fallen away from Christianity.

Heaven is for Real is fabulous.
The Bible, the mini-series
The Blind Side, while not religious, the family is a faith based family.
Facing the Giants
Fireproof
For Greater Glory
The Greatest Miracle
October Baby
The Way
Courageous

And nice clean wholesome books… Love Comes Softly, and the other 10 of the movies! Excellent movies. 🙂

The Way! That was a good movie. 🙂

I forgot to mention Amazing Grace, about Lord Wilberforce who became religious, and his efforts to end slavery.

You are very welcome! I loved that movie and the actor who plays Jesus is very good, IMO.

🙂

Not a big fan of recent Christian movies like
God’s Not Dead
Heaven is for Real

But I really love

The Song of Bernadette
Bells of Saint Mary
Restless Heart St. Augustine
Mother Teresa

Pius XII Under the Roman Sky

Altho it’s not a religious movie,
I will recommend “Begin Again” to singers/musicians any day!
It has a GREAT story line, NO explicit love scenes or sexual content,
and you will leave the theatre BELIEVING that all things CAN work
together for good!

I must mention The Exorcist.

It falls under the genre of horror, but it is a great Catholic film. The priests are heroes, although one of them is troubled and is experiencing a spiritual crisis. I know that many are baffled by the ending, but the story ends with sacrifice for a greater good, and with people fighting for God until the very end. The demon is defeated. I felt edified after having watched it and then read the book. Even better.

Can someone tell me about God’s Not Dead and Heaven is for Real. Is there anything against Catholic Teachings in them?

Thank you.

There was an excellent 1980 film starring Ellen Burstyn called “Resurrection” that is hard to find, but well worth seeing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resurrection_(1980_film
That is a good movie. It is hard to find…I have it ‘saved’ on Netflix in case it’s ever reissued. Maybe an old VHS copy on Ebay…

If we’re talking overtly Catholic movies, I like ‘Shoes of the Fisherman,’ Pasolini’s ‘Gospel of St. Matthew,’ ‘Brother Sun, Sister Moon,’ by Franco Zefferelli, about St. Francis, and ‘Black Robe,’ which is about a French Jesuit in 17th Century Canada. Just be forewarned, ‘Black Robe’ has some pretty disturbing violence.

Also another vote for ‘The Blues Brothers.’

Available on Amazon:

Resurrection
Ellen Burstyn (Actor), Sam Shepard (Actor), Daniel Petrie (Director) Rated: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) Format: DVD

Really, I don’t think that most religious based movies are overtly anti anything or go against any particular religions teachings. There are no bad parts that I remember etc. and so forth. It’s a wonderful movie. It’s about a pastors child. But it isn’t catholic.
It’s wholesome and a feel good movie and a true story.

I haven’t seen God’s not Dead yet. But it’s in the mail. 🙂

God’s Not Dead.

GREAT movie. I really enjoyed it. It’s not a catholic movie, but it’s Christian. I think it’s well worth the time to watch. I bought it and I’m soooooo glad I did.
