We are the Priesthood. The Catholic Church teaches the priesthood of all believers - each and all baptized Christians are anointed Priest, Prophet, and King.

Only we also have the Ministerial Priesthood, which functions alongside the priesthood of all believers.

And de-clericalization refers to the false idea that the clergy do all the “work” for us - that all you had to do was show up at Mass and you could day dream and receive the same amount of grace as someone who intently follows along.

Ah ok. Makes sense. I didn’t know people thought the priests could do it all.

You wouldn’t know that because today they don’t - thanks to the reforms of VII.

Prior to VII it was a commonly held errant belief.

If you’re talking about bringing in EMHCs and such into the liturgy, I don’t know if I’d be thanking VII for that. It seems they were brought in because of the scarcities of priests among other things. The case with permanent deacons, however, was a good one IMO.

Thanks for this. I’ve heard those points before: the meaning behind the posture of standing (giving glory & praise to God), and receiving in the hand (take and eat). To this day the teaching comes to mind each time I attend mass.

A most reverent experience happened at an outdoor pilgrimage. It began to rain right after consecration. Umbrellas came out to shelter extraordinary ministers stationed throughout the crowd.

It was raining quite hard; there were no real aisles, people moved to cluster around the nearest “holy tent,” hands outstretched forming a half circle under the shelter, like hungry children, begging to receive the bread of life. People were silent and so careful to protect the host from rain or accident. Rain beat down on the umbrellas while a tangible peace and a holy calm reigned beneath. The rain cleared in time for a candlelight procession to the nearby grotto.
