Greatest creature of God

The Blessed Virgin Mary is said to be the greatest of Gods creatures, indeed even greater than the angles. And I get this, she is after all the mother of our Lord. She is our mother too and her intercession is strong and devotion to her is beautiful. But technically, wouldn’t it be more accurate to say that Jesus’s human nature is the greatest thing ever created? Jesus is God so he has always existed and is not created, indeed. But Jesus has not always been man. He became a man. His human nature was created. So isn’t Jesus’s human nature the greatest thing in all of creation?

The nature of a creature is but one component of that creature, just as the paint or the canvas upon which I might paint a work of art are components of my work. The finality of the “piece” is akin to the “creature”. Man’s nature is just one component of an individual man, who in turn is the “creature”. Since Jesus’ humanity subsides in his individual being, which also contains his uncreated divinity we cannot speak of Jesus as being a creature in any sense of the term.

Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Sounds to me that Jesus says that John the Baptist was the greatest?

Isn’t it a bit hyperbolic to try and determine the “greatest” creature of God? The greatest of God’s creatures would be so humble as to dismiss the suggestion. Such a determination is completely subjective and ultimately serves no point.

Mary was the greatest of God’s creatures because she was obedient. Mary was part of Gods plan from the moment of her conception. She had to be free from sin to carry the son of God. When Mary said yes to God at the annunciation…her answer to the Angel Gabriel was important for us. She suffered with Jesus during His crucifixion as though her heart was pierced with a sword. On the cross Jesus gave Mary to us as our Mother. This is very important as from that moment on Mary became our Mother because Jesus commanded it. She loves us unconditionally and is constantly interceding for us in heaven to Jesus. Jesus was true God and true man…Jesus is the king of kings the Master to which we adore and worship and that is different to Mary’s role.

Yet the Church teaches it. Our Lady has been elevated above all the angels, above all creation. Why does it matter? Well for one She is our mother and we seek to praise Her…but it’s also theological. God became man. In Christ, as realized by Mary the perfect type of the Church, deified mankind is placed above all creation. Such is God’s grace and love for Adam’s race.

Sounds to me that Jesus says that John the Baptist was the greatest?

If Jesus was speaking absolutely, without the possibility of exceptions, then even Jesus himself was not greater than John the Baptist, which is absurd.

As indicated by the words, “yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he,” when Jesus said there was none greater than John the Baptist, Jesus was referring to those living exclusively under the Old (Jewish) Dispensation and not himself or those who would come to live under the New (Christian) Dispensation. Who is in the kingdom of heaven? Those born of the Spirit, i.e., Christians. Was the Virgin Mary a Christian? Her being at prayer with the Apostles in the upper room after Jesus’ ascension into heaven (Acts 1:14) and presumably among the “they” who were later filled with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) strongly suggests she became a Christian and, thus, was greater than John the Baptist.
