There are plenty of threads on CAF alone on the topic. “Colere” indeed means “to worship, to cultivate, to venerate” so it’s not wrong per se. Had another word been chosen, there would probably been repercussions from that as well. Look at the translation wars that resulted when the Mass was approved to be said in English.The only person I ever recall mentioning “worshjiping” Mary was a fellow Army officer who was from Puerto Rico and, despite his complete fluency in English, may have simply slipped.
