In the Middle AGes, the Church acquired two great components from Greece that indeed enabled her to flourish and “rest” from the Serpent in Catholic Christendom, the height of the Church’s influence on Europe:

Greek Philosophy enhanced the intellect of the Church like no other pagan incorporation. It took the mere natural light of reason and harnessed it as a viable weapon in the expounding, development, and defense of the Catholic dogma and doctrine. Indispensible it has been in the development of Catholic thought.
And the heart of the Church, the will, has been elevated by the majesty of Sacred Art. As long as a person is not a flaming idiot Fundamentalist who thinks that statues are idols, they will gasp in utter praise of GOd when they enter a Catholic Cathedral that is adorned with the precious images of saints and Mary and Christ. What the pagans used to glorify the flesh and the polytheism was taken by Rome (and the Orthodox to some extent) and transformed to glorify God.
For, since we are the partakers of the Divine nature through the infusion of sanctifying grace, therefore, where divine life resides, there resides Christ (“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute ME [My Father’s children]?” “When you did it to the least of My brothers, you did it to Me.”) Hence, images of the saints are images of Christ, which are images of God. Therefore, Sacred Art is predestined by God. From all eternity, God willed images, whether of two or three dimensions, to exist within His Churches, to give us a visible manifestation of the supernatural beauty of GOd that dwells in all the righteous. And to cause us to give greater glory to God than to enter an empty building with an empty cross.
for since formal heretics hearts are hardened, that is hardened wills, so they reject the softness of the hearts of Catholics, who, because their hearts are soft, receive from the Greeks the Art that is made Sacred.
Hence, it is predestined that the formal heretics of the fifth trumpet must exercise wrath against Sacred Art, especially of the VIRGIN, since She is the ultimate manifestation of softness, the ultimate example of utter purity in a creature. She was the perfect vessel, she received fully of the Divine Embrace. And since the formal heretic’s heart is hardened, he shall attack the Virgin and all images of her until, perhaps, God can knock him off his horse, as was done with the Pharisee of old.
Beware, formal heretics, that you shall in no wise escape the coming holocaust, if it must come, if humanity does not repent in time. The rapture occurs at the end of time.
Behold, if fire is to fall from the hands that shall push the buttons, in no wise shall the just of these cities escape the consuming fire. The Virgin has prophesied that entire nations shall be annihilated if her requests are not heeded.
THen Ratzinger indicated that whereas Russia has been validly consecrated, the general requests of penance and rosaries have not, and that, hence, this yet unfulfilled horror will most likely still need to occur before the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin is to triumph in the age of Peace, the reunion of Christians and the glorious restoration of Catholic Christendom throughout the near whole of the Gentiles.
