I was told yesterday that the phrase, “I am the handmaid of the Lord,” is, in Latin, “I am the slave-girl of the Lord.” …How does that passage read in Greek (translation)?

The greek word that is used is Doulos which means a literal slave. In traditional language it would mean someone who is a servant to another in the lowest form. In Christian language it means someone who gives themselves wholly over to another’s will out of Love.

So the strict Greek reading would be I am the slave of the Lord or I am the servant of the Lord. Not much different than the Latin version.
