I just ordered some green scapulars for family members. I will place them in their rooms and recite the appropriate prayer everyday on their behalf.

But I have a question. Does this scapular carry the same promise as the brown in regards to Mother Mary helping the person it was intended for during the hour of their death? I thought I read something of that nature on the net…but not cannot find it?

Good!

No it does not. There is a promise of a “happy death” associated with the Green Scapular but there is nothing like the assistance in Purgatory, etc. that comes with the Brown Scapular.

The Green Scapular is a different tool in the arsenal than the Brown Scapular. The Green Scapular is meant to be an aid to prayer for the conversion of a soul (including yourself or your family members). It may be placed as you described.

The Brown Scapular, on the other hand, is meant for perseverance and protection from sin and evil. The Brown Scapular is an actual scapular (the Green is not, as it has no back part) and so the Brown Scapular must be worn, not placed in a room or on a car’s rear-view mirror.

Thanks for the reply!

What does a “happy death” mean? I tried to google it and found one website that said the green scapular would ensure a happy death and eternal salvation, however, I did not see this on other sites?

No problem 🙂

No scapular, or any other object, ensures eternal salvation. That requires faith, baptism, and cooperation with the Holy Spirit until death.

A happy death means reception of the Sacraments and less suffering at death.

Here’s some info on all the different scapulars.

less suffering at death, never heard of this. if your trying to ensure that your family won’t enter hell yes the green scapular and the prayer will ensure mary’s intervention. but again it’s jesus who saves not the scapular
