Hi, I just found out a close friend has been diagnosed with cancer, but I can’t visit him. Can I wear my Green Scapular for him and pray for him, or does it have to be physically close to him?

I am unaware of any rules regarding the Green Scapular and that it must be close to those who are ill to gain the graces associated but then, I am not even remotely an expert on the subject. Having said that, I cannot imagine Our Lady or our Blessed Lord rejecting the wearing of a scapular and prayers which are honestly given for the benefit of another.

Thank you! I had the same thought, but hearing it from someone else helps.🙂

I have a green scapular that I haven’t used yet because I haven’t gotten it blessed by a priest yet. However, my understanding (being that it is for cures and conversions) that wearing it yourself and praying is sufficient and you do not need to be in physical proximity to the person for whom you are praying.

I’m looking forward to finally wearing mine!!! Thank you for the reminder!

Thanks for your answer! It’s definitely a comfort to wear it.

While you’re at it, ask for prayers of healing and comfort for your friend. Your friend has my prayers.

“There is only one prayer that needs to be said, at least once a day: “Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.” If the person who is the intended beneficiary of the scapular’s use does not say it, then someone else can say it in his place. The Green Scapular may be used anywhere, for anyone.”

Use it by all means and specially if it helps to focus your prayers.

The fine print: 😃

Society of the Green Scapular is not a confraternity approved by the Church. (wikipedia) In other words, this is a private devotion.

For those of us not within the Confraternity:

“Lord, may Your Hands be upon Your servant in his distress. May Your Power be shown in healing, Your Love in forgiving. Amen.”
