Does anybody know of this tradition?

I think (correct me if I’m wrong) you have 30 masses said in a row for a loved one in Purgatory and it releases them. Has anyone done this, and where can you go to have it done?

Does anyone know of any other customs of having masses said? Is there such a thing as perpetual masses?

My dad recently passed away and I was wondering about different things I could do.
 
Yes, you can have your Dad enrolled in a perpetual Mass, which means his soul will
be prayed for at the daily Mass offered at whichever convent, shrine, or monastery
where you have him “enrolled”.
Where I live, it’s the custom for people to enroll a deceased loved one in perpetual Masses and people often do that instead of sending flowers for the funeral.

I had Gregorian Masses said for my father when he passed. If you google “Gregorian Masses” you will find a few orders that do it. If I recall correctly, the group I used was a group of Fransican priests known as the Seraphic Fathers. I think they are based in PA.

I also had my father enrolled at a Benedictine monestary in MA. Glastonbury Abbey.

One can never assume that after the Gregorian 30 are said, that their loved on is automatically released from Purgatory. Only God knows. But it’s still of great benefit to them

They have several options. The Gregorian Mass was a bit out of my reach, but I had a Novena prayed for my father’s soul. They have the Gregorian 30 Day Mass, the Novena Mass, and individual masses available.

This is the order I used.
They, too, have a variety of options.
The Gregorian series can be costly, but if you think about it, it’s 30 masses. So if it’s $10 a Mass, that would make sense
