Does anyone have a recommendation for a meat thermometer for grilling? We have gone through a couple and it always seems like the cable gets messed up or something that their accuracy goes out the window (they register a higher temp. and the food isn’t ready yet). We have an infrared cooker, and dh likes grilling, so it would be good for it to withstand high heat. I think the wireless stuff is neat, but if it messes with the accuracy, then we can go with something simpler. I have been looking online but I cannot find any reviews, I can’t even find a grilling site to ask or see if anyone has asked before…

Cable? I must be living in the stone age, because my meat thermometers have always had a dial readout and metal spike to stick in the meat… and that’s it. Seems if those can take oven temps, they should be able to take grill temps for a few minutes to get a reading.

We have a great little digital unit, with on/off, Celsius/Fahrenheit functions. It was maybe 20 bucks and I think it works great. Sort of like this one internetkitchenstore.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1518

I wouldn’t want one with a cord- seems like one more thing to get dirty! Mine’s very easy to clean and I haven’t had any problems with accuracy.
HTH!

For grilling, the old fashioned metal with the dial on the end.

I should have explained I wanted one where one can see the temperature of the meat/poultry/etc without opening the lid of the grill/oven or having to remove the item from the IR cooker, or having to stick the meat over and over. Regular old fashioned thermometers are great and I just wish I could find a thermometer that works as well (accurate) as the “old fashioned” ones, but with the modern features 🙂 I was planning on getting a good quality non-digital thermometer too, “old fashioned”. Any suggestions?

I swear I thought this thread was about what temperature you had to use to grill gurus. I was glad I’m not an expert on anything.

Lol, I know I titled it grilling gurus, but my post is really directed to anyone that has or knows of a meat thermometer they like, or has any ideas of where to go to find one or can help me in any way…
