Hey CAF,

My wife and I have been married almost 3 years.

When we were engaged I was Catholic, she was not. She agreed to come into the Church, and at Easter 2010 she was baptised, confirmed and had 1st Holy Communion.

Since that day, she had not practiced her faith, she has been to Mass no more then 3-4 times since, I had to almost force her to go to confession before our marriage, which was about 6 months later.

Recently she has got to the point where she hates me practicing my Catholic faith, and is really against it. And it has cause bug problems in our marriage, and says things like “what have I married” or “I have married a 60 year old priest wanna be”, she also calls me names like “bible basher” and others.

I don’t think I would of married her, if I thought she had no plans to ever practice her faith.

She also has been practicing contraception, although we have had 2 children in that time, she stil has used contraception, at times when she doesn’t want to conceive.

God bless

It sounds like you knew that she was not a practicing Catholic and you chose to marry her and have children anyway. You thought that you could change her?

I suppose I did think she would change. She also convinced me that she would.

This is not a cut and dry case.
There would need to be way more information than you could ever supply here so I don’t think that we can make even a guess on the matter.
You need to contact your priest about your marital issues and what you are thinking. Then be guided by his advice in these matters.

Peace
James

Hi tony,

I am so very sorry to hear that this is happening, with the name-calling, and so on.

Has she told you why she doesn’t want to go to Mass, or why she doesn’t want to practice her faith?

I would go and talk to your pastor, tony, and get some help and guidance from him.

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amoungst women,
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen :gopray:

Can you also get to counseling, preferably with a Catholic Counselor? Catholic Social Services should have one.

Even if she won’t go, you might benefit from some kind of counseling. Your health insurance might cover a few visits.

Impossible to tell you anything certain on the basis of such little data, and I wouldn’t like to set you in the mood where you’re hoping for grounds of nullity rather than ways for the marriage to be repaired, but there may be a case under can. 1098 if she deceived you intentionally in order to have you agree to the marriage (though if she simply caved and gave external appearances under some form of pressure it won’t qualify as malicious deceit).
