No, not of itself.

What would be the **point **of divorce in this situation?

Why do you ask?

If the marriage were never consummated, it would be grounds for an annulment.

No, that is also not necessarily true. A marriage can be valid and unconsummated. However, an valid and unconsummated marriage can technically be dissolved.

Is a sexless marriage grounds for divorce?
What do you mean by “grounds for divorce”? Do you mean would divorce be legally allowed in this situation, according to the law in your state or country? Or do you mean would divorce be morally acceptable in this situation, according to Catholic teaching? Or do you really mean to ask about grounds for an annulment in the Catholic Church?

Also, do you envision a divorce with no remarriage, or a divorce possibly followed by remarriage?

Yes.

Also, is there a physical disability or mental illness involved? It would seem a bit cold, for instance, to divorce an impotent husband.

Please think through the logic of the question you are asking.

You want to divorce your wife because the marriage is sexless.

You will then be a divorcee, on a legal basis, but still married in the eyes of the Church, and thus not morally free to engage in any sex. So what will the divorce have solved? Certainly not your lack of sex!

If you want more sex, seek to heal your marriage. That remains my firm advice based on this post and previous posts of yours.

Yes.

Why is the marriage sexless? It matters.

Marriage enjoys the presumption of validity and the presumption that both spouses have both the right and duty to the common conjugal life. Even separation with the bond remaining requires that a legitimate reason exists for abandonment of the common conjugal life. The absence of sex is not automatically such a reason.

Having said that, a spouse does have the right to expect that sexual relations are to be included as an integral part of married life, in the instances when both spouses are capable. Certainly one spouse should not expect to be able to decide unilaterally to deny sexual relations that he or she is capable of sharing. Still, this is something that is best solved by communication, patience and mutual good will. The solution to such a problem will be unitive in its nature, and in no way coercive.

Something to consider … Is a lack of sex the biggest problem you are facing right now?
