I read yesterday that a group of Catholic Bishops said if someone was attracted to someone of the same sex, it was not sin. What about,

Matthew 5:27-28 “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

Can one be attracted to another without lust in their heart?

Short answer: Yes. Chastity is an exercise of the intellect and will. SSA is not sinful; for heterosexuals and homosexuals alike, dismissing lustful impulses when they first arise is the appropriate response; entertaining lustful thoughts or acting on them is another kettle of fish.

Temptation is not sin.

If the attraction is not lustful. If its physical beauty it is not a sin. Does this mean that viewing a naked woman for admiring the beauty of her is ok?

Well, it is up to the individual. A man could be easy tempted for deep seated lustful desires. It would be so much better to not look at all, if a man wants to be pure of heart.

I’m not speaking about a heterosexual attraction. That is a natural attraction. A man being attracted to another man and a woman being attracted to another woman is not a natural attraction. People have been spinning this in thousands of ways in order to be "politically correct and not to “offend” someone. Truth is offensive to those who know not the truth.

I read the article.

The article is not speaking about “attraction” as in looking at a specific person and having lust in one’s heart. That would be a sin for a homosexual or a heterosexual.

This is speaking about being a homosexual. It is not a sin to be a homosexual who does not act on the temptations of same sex attraction.

While the homosexual person may need to confess and repent of lust in their heart where it came to a specific person or personal acts done to oneself while thinking of such immoral acts, this is no different than a heterosexual man or woman who would have to confess for the lust in their thoughts about someone if it were not their spouse.

Of course… people are given free will and some who know and accept that their attraction is wrong choice to follow Church teaching and abstain. Some choose to on moral standards and not necessarily Christian teaching of course too.
