Growth in Diocese toward conservatism

Where you suggested I bring my concerns to the bishop, of course, hundreds of others were also present. Whether to escalate a complaint is a personal choice.
Here is what I think, have the courage to put in an official complaint, because if behaviour like that is truly happening, it will scandalise and further damage the Church.

We must weed out, purge the Church, of unholy behaviour where we find it. If we dont want to put in a formal complaint to the Pastor or Bishop, tell those involved what is being seen and say please explain.

Accusing on a forum will just cause more damage to an already damaged church with many reading and then saying 'well thats the church for you and its priests"

As someone with a Political Science degree, I always get ticked off when people use ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ incorrectly and try to apply it to the Church… also get very ticked when people think they have all the political knowledge in the world sitting on their couch instead of getting an actual degree in it…

Posts about liberal vs conservative, modern vs orthodox, “reverent” vs … always seem to have a vein of surliness. A “chip on the shoulder.”

Why? Why are people like this?

I cannot control how others respond to the truth. I formally participated years ago in investigations when the scandals broke in reporting abuse I experienced in the church due to a predator posing as a priest.

He is long dead and I won’t go into details here because what should be shared is already a matter of public record, and further, the man cannot defend himself from the grave. The process of reporting this was very hard on me. It cannot be endless.

Call it selfish, if you will, not to engage with a bishop over every observed transgression, but I have to be mindful of how getting caught up in the quagmire .of church abuses impacts me personally. Know that I believe every abuse IN the church is an abuse OF the church.

Sometimes I have just walked away and tried another parish. I have been criticized plenty for shopping for a parish I can be part of, though only by other Catholics, sadly. I am not looking for prettier windows, more convenient parking or more frequent donuts…I have sought a feeling of safety.

The church is damaged and as a community, we need to take our lashings. What this community permitted to happen to our own is dispicable. We darn well better own it and do better.

Nitpicking each other for mentioning transgressions is counterproductive. I am not criticizing the church. I am criticizing abuse of the church.

I have a degree in journalism but presume you know something of the news. Your argument is very narrow and disrespectful.of the knowledge of others.

I know a guy who went to West Point who is the best cabinet maker I have ever met. Formal education isn’t everything.

It’s the same thing as every sports fan thinking they are the best coach, scout, and drafter in the world.

You don’t see non-scientists pretending they know physics but you see tons of people pretending they know politics

I was recently mocked by a politically liberal, Christian bashing supervisor at work for wearing a cross which my parents had blessed in Rome, and after being caught “being Catholic at work” was fired. The idea that political liberals support Catholic orthodoxy simply isn’t at all true in my opinion.
That is illegal if you were fired solely due to religious affiliation. If that is the case, you should take the matter to court or at least report it to the EEOC because it violates title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I think most of us employ knowledge of physics daily. It would be pretty weird of we, for example, suddenly all became oblivious to the idea of gravity. I don’t need to call Newton to understand that the patio chairs are going to blow into the neighboring yard …when the wind kicked up today, I brought in the chairs.

Think of some of the possibilities. If any of her children are on the autism spectrum, it’s really hard to “discipline” them. My autistic nephews are only now, in their teens, beginning to get the idea of how to behave in a quiet setting.
As the mom of an child with Autism who is frequently struggling in vein to keep her child quiet at mass, thank you for mentioning this.

I like reverence. I never understand why traditionalists associate reverence with latin though.

it’s clear we should be voting for the Republican political party.
This is your opinion… and it is not my opinion nor the opinion of millions of Catholics. You cannot call yourself pro-life if you are against abortion but promote the countless unjust, discriminatory, and hateful policies of the RP.

I will not go further as I do not want to start anything

Indeed we should not be nitpicking priests because we are assuming their behaviour is contrary to the faith. We should not be publicly castigating them. It is not trial by CAF.

This is why I support the American Solidarity Party.

Honestly…

I think the reason is because (unlike the Anglicans) the average Catholic parish has not been accommodating to both “sets” of Catholics.

For example: it’s not uncommon for a Church in the Anglican Communion to have one service which is traditional and another that is contemporary.

However, it is rare to find a parish that has one Sunday mass with chant and Latin Hymns while another time uses contemporary music.

Most Catholic parishes tend to select one type of liturgical style, which is great for the people who like that style, but frustrating for the ones who do not.

I think if Paul VI or JP2 would have mandated that each parish with more than 1 Sunday mass dedicated at least 1 Sunday mass to using Latin (with reading in vernacular) & chant, then we would have never had all the “liturgical wars” that have been raging for the past 50 years.

However, it is also important to keep in mind that the “liturgical wars” were raging long before Vatican II, as many members of the clergy were trying to push for changes that were introduced in 1970 longer before Vatican II started.

God bless

I have a degree in Political Science too. However, I cannot agree with your post.

This is why I support the American Solidarity Party .
Unfortunately, the American Solidarity Party will never be a viable political party in the United States. Even if every single Catholic in the US joined that party, it would never be viable in a two party system.

I personally, believe the better option is for every pro-life Catholic to join the Republican Party so we can make the Republican Party a party more in line with all Catholic teachings (which I think is far more possible than trying to convert the Democratic Party)

The behaviour was wrong. Some men dishonor the priesthood.

Sorry to break it to you.

To honor the good ones and the vocation, we better get real. I have not listed names, dates or parishes. Anyone not living under a rock knows such things happen. I will continue discussing it to protect the good people I know and love in vocations. Hiding it didn’t work out too well.

They need to be politicians if they want to change things like that.

I am posting about this to ask if others are seeing a growth in attendance and reverence in their parishes?
I see it with the newest generation of priests. Priests who are in the 20s and 30s nowadays have a tendency to be much more orthodox. People may bash the millennials a lot, but millennial priests are pretty awesome.

My educated GUESS is because these are the ones who are willing to fight for the soul of the Church in the “post sex scandal” Church.

Also, the type of men who caused the sex scandals are typically no longer attracted to the priesthood. They no longer seek out the priesthood to hide or to change society. Instead, these types of men are primarily going to law school or becoming teachers to push their social agenda and living out their sexual desires in public.
