Hello all,

I don’t know where to post this, so please forgive me. Iam not a regular on these forums. I ran across an article of great interest to my wife and I.

The growth of the Church in Africa is incredible to say the lest! I was so impressed with the growth, that Iam going to post the part of the article here for you to see.

My wife posted this on another forum, but I wanted to post it here. I never realized the awesome growth of our Church in Africa until I read this article.

It is truly amazing how fast the Church is growing is it not?

We have1 billion Catholics world wide as my wife informs me.
Iam truly delighted to see the incredible growth in Africa and
also in other corners of the world.

The Catholic Church is growing faster in Africa than on any other continent, with almost 150 million adherents in countries such as Nigeria, Tanzania, Angola, and Botswana.

In 20 years, more Catholics may live in Africa than in Europe–

Africans didn’t feel neglected by John Paul II, who they say did more for the continent than any previous pope. He visited Africa 13 times during his papacy, appointed many African cardinals and elevated Arinze into one of the top jobs at the Vatican: prefect of the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

It is very exciting! Growth of the Church anywhere is exciting! There have been so many Cathoilc missionaries through the years who have given their lives for Africa. It isgood to see the fruit of their labors now.

That’s correct. Even the Is-la-mists are admitting that they are loosing out to Christianity there. Praise to God!

Maybe they’ll reciprocate and send some missionaries of their own back here! I think the U.S. is a much needed mission field these day.

The growth of the Church in Africa is impressive, but it lags severely behind other christian religions such as the Pentecostals. The Catholic Church in Africa also suffers from the integration of traditional faith and witch craft into doctrine.

Some really unorthodox things have occured in the African Catholic Church including animal sacrifice. I’m not trying to rain on your parade, but the growth of the faith on the African continent is as much a challenge as it is hope.

I agree - the real growth is in Pentecostalism. The Catholic church is increasing falling behing in Africa. Very mis-leading article.

We have enjoyed a very orthodox young priest from Nigeria for the past year who came to learn about running youth camps and youth ministry for his diocese back home. We will sorely miss him as our assistant when he leaves next month. It has been great having him working with our youth (and the rest of us).

My parish is quite diverse, but we actually have more black Africans than black Americans as members. Of course, I’m the only Catholic in my family, so I’m not exactly swelling the numbers of black Americans myself.

My parish had a wonderful, orthodox priest from the Congo for several months. Unfortunately, he wasn’t here very long as his bishop asked him to work in a parish out west. They’re very blessed to have him!

The priest at my home parish (I’m military so I go to church where I can) is an African missionary from Tanzania. I find it interesting that Africa is sending missionaries to the US.
